Compare gas, electricity and internet bundles in Australia
You can take the hassle out of signing up with different providers by bundling your electricity, gas and internet and claiming a discount. However, it may not always be the cheapest option.
Providers you can get both your gas and electricity through
Bundling your gas and electricity bills under a single "dual fuel" provider (one which provides both utilities), might be convenient but could end up costing you more.
It's always best to compare electricity and gas plans separately to see if bundling the 2 with the same provider is the right choice.
This is because the cheapest provider of electricity may not be the cheapest provider of gas, and vice versa.
Dodo is a solid option if you're looking for a provider that offers bundling discounts and in return fast NBN speeds and reasonably-priced electricity and gas plans as well as extra features.
These include Dodo SmartPay, allowing you to pay your energy bills in regular instalments by direct debit, reducing the pinch felt during peak times like summer and winter. There is also the online account management tool My Dodo, which allows you to monitor your energy usage and pay bills online.
The first step of our methodology was to shortlist all the providers in Finder's database that offered bundling discounts for internet, electricity and gas under the one brand name.
We then scored each provider on their value for internet and then electricity and gas separately before combining the results to come up with a winner.
For internet, we looked at price, discounts and speed as the determining factors. For electricity and gas, we looked at just prices and discounts.
Internet We calculated the average cost per Mbps for each provider. We did this by first looking at the total cost (including promotional and bundling discounts) over 12 months across the different speed tiers available.
We then used the total cost and typical evening speeds displayed on plans to come up with the average cost per Mbps.
Good to know. The typical evening speed is what you get during the busy hours of the day, 7-11pm. We also only considered speed tiers that were commonly available from each provider to keep the comparison equal.
Whether the NBN plan was available as a no lock-in contract was also considered.
Electricity and gas We used one postcode per state to look at annual prices estimates for electricity and gas plans on a single rate tariff for a 2-3 person household. We used the cheapest plan from each provider as our benchmark.
We then ranked each provider based on which one offered the cheapest electricity and gas plans in NSW, Qld and VIC, which are the states where providers are most commonly available.
The provider that ranked first across the most categories was judged to be the top pick.
Is it cheaper to bundle internet, energy, and gas together?
This can vary between providers as well as on a month-to-month basis depending on any price movements.
Ideally you should be comparing each service separately to see if any bundling discounts offered by a provider are worth it based on your specific requirements.
Here's an at-a-glance at the pros and cons of bundling internet, electricity and gas together.
Pros
Convenience of being with a single provider for most of your utilities
A lot of times you'll receive bundling discounts that can help you save money over the year
Cons
Bundling discounts aren't always worth it if you can get cheaper electricity, gas and internet plans from different providers
The one provider may not match all your requirements for energy and internet
I went down the route of using Powershop as it was the best-for-price environmentally conscious electricy + gas provider. It actually turned out to be cheaper than the named-brands like Origin
Which providers offer energy and internet bundles in Australia?
There's only a handful of providers that offer internet and energy bundles.
These are mostly energy companies that have branched out into offering internet plans, and that too primarily NBN.
The main selling point is you can shave off a few dollars off your monthly internet plan as long as you hold an energy plan with them.
Here's a look into all the providers in Finder's database that have bundling offers.
AGL electricity and NBN bundles
You can save $30 a month off selected AGL NBN plans for the first 6 months, then $15 a month ongoing, if you have an AGL energy account.
AGL offers 5 NBN plans across various speed tiers between NBN 25 and NBN 1000. Prices start at $69 a month. They feature typical average download speeds that range from 25Mbps to 650Mbps.
You also get:
No lock-in contract
Unlimited data
100% carbon neutral plans
You can get both electricity and gas plans in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. Residents in WA can only sign up for gas.
By bundling your energy and your internet plans with Dodo, you could save up to $10 every month off your Dodo NBN. That's a $5 saving each for an active electricity and gas service at your address.
Dodo offers NBN plans across 5 speed tiers ranging from NBN 15 to NBN 250. Prices start from $58.90 a month.
In return you'll get:
Unlimited data

It offers electricity plans in NSW, VIC and QLD, and gas plans NSW and VIC only.

Origin Energy electricity and internet bundles
Origin offers a $10 ongoing monthly discount when you bundle an internet plan with electricity and, or, gas plan.
Origin has 6 NBN plans across various speed tiers ranging from NBN 25 to NBN 1000. Prices start at $83 a month.
Its NBN plans also come with:
No lock-in contract
Unlimited data

Opting for Origin's energy plans will also give you the following benefits:
No lock-in contract
Select plans allow you to earn Everyday Rewards points
Live chat support
An app to help you manage your plan and track energy usage
Sumo energy and internet bundles
You can get Sumo NBN plans at a discount if you have an active gas or electricity account with them. The discount is $5 a month for gas, $10 a month for electricity, or $15 a month with both.
The main caveat is you'll need to sign up to a 12- or 24-month contract to receive the bundling discount. You'll be charged a fee of up to $250 if you leave before your contract is up.
Sumo offers 3 NBN plans across NBN 25 and NBN 100. Prices start from $70 a month and get you:
Unlimited data
Option to BYO modem or purchase one for $149
Free modem if you commit to a 24-month contract
Sumo's electricity plans are available to residents in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. Only NSW and VIC households can sign up for gas as well.
Some features of its energy plans include:
No lock-in contract
Australian-based support team
Kogan internet and energy bundles
Although Kogan offers both energy and internet plans, there are no bundling discounts offered.
EnergyAustralia internet and electricity bundles
EnergyAustralia doesn't offer internet and electricity bundles as it is no longer an NBN provider.
If you have your electricity through EnergyAustralia, you'll need to get your internet elsewhere.

Important information about this website
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
