Dodo Energy Review: Gas and electricity plans

Dodo may have started in broadband, but today it offers both electricity and gas as well.

Updated . What changed?

Dodo Power & Gas

Dodo started off as a mobile and Internet provider, but has since expanded into the energy market. Dodo offers electricity and gas on simple, uncomplicated plans to residents of NSW, VIC, QLD, and SA.

They don't have a stellar green rating compared to other retailers, but they do have GreenPower options on their energy plans.

Dodo Energy: In summary

Details
  • Pros.
  • Electricity plans for residents of NSW, VIC, SA, and QLD, as well as natural gas to VIC and parts of NSW.
  • Simple energy plans without complicated features or discounts.
  • Cons.
  • While Dodo can provide all your home services (including Internet), it makes it harder to tell whether you're getting a good deal on each one individually.

Dodo built its brand as a low-cost phone and Internet service provider, but back in 2010 expanded to become an electricity and gas retailer under the name Dodo Power & Gas.

Today, Dodo Energy supplies electricity to customers in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. It also sells gas plans to Victorian and NSW customers.

Dodo's plans feature flexible payment options, so you can pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your budgeting needs.

There's also no lock-in contracts, so if you find a better deal you can switch without having to face any fees for breaking contract.

Breakdown of plans offered

Dodo Energy has a single electricity plan for residents of NSW, VIC, SA, and QLD, and provides natural gas on a single plan to VIC and parts of NSW. All plans have no exit fees.

Energy Residential Market (Electricity)

Simple variable rate residential electricity plan with flexible payment options and no lock-in contract. There are no extra features or discounts associated with this particular plan.

Gas Residential Market (Gas)

Much like their electricity offerings, this is a basic variable rate natural gas plan with flexible payments. It may include a pay on time discount in certain states, but this can change.

Does Dodo Energy offer solar?

Dodo Energy does not offer solar installation services, but if you have a pre-existing solar system you'll receive solar feed-in tariffs depending on what state you live in.

How green is Dodo Energy?

Dodo Energy scored a 4.4/10 on the Green Electricity Guide, putting it right in the middle of Australian energy retailers. It doesn't really offer carbon offsets, has an unclear stance on fossil fuels, but is at least transparent about its energy use.

Dodo does offer 10% to 100% GreenPower on its plans, and its solar feed-in tariffs are generally higher than the minimum for each state.

Can I manage my plan from my phone?

No, there's no dedicated mobile platform for managing your Dodo plan. The most you can do is pay bills via the Dodo website.

      Hi Sara,

Thanks for getting in touch! To choose a provider for energy depends on where you are located. As per Dodo, their operating hours are from 10am-7pm only. To find out other providers’ operating hours, you must first check the providers in your state on this page and once you have decided which one to go for, you can go their website’s contact page and you’ll be able to find their operating hours. Hope this helps!

      Best,
      Nikki

How much would it cost to set up wifi, electricity and gas within your company with a 12 month contract?

      ShirleyJune 28, 2016Staff

      Hi Jess,

      Thanks for your question.

Since this is a home bundle, you will need to get in touch with Dodo directly to ask for a quote.

Dodo usually offers electricity and gas separately to it’s broadband.
