NBN: Who gets the most Sky Muster satellite coverage?
Analysis of NBN’s satellite footprint reveals which locations will be eligible to order NBN satellite services on the new Sky Muster satellites.
Today, nbn officially launched its Sky Muster satellite service, which will be the main high-speed option in locations which are too remote for fibre or fixed wireless. You can check NBN options at your address with finder's NBN Tracker, but just which places will benefit the most from the Sky Muster service?
Based on analysis of NBN’s satellite address lists, there are currently at least 11,517 different locations throughout Australia and its territories on the Sky Muster satellite roadmap.
Topping the list in terms of the number of eligible premises is Norfolk Island, where some 1,385 premises are eligible to apply for a service. Like other Australian overseas territories, Norfolk Island is an NBN Satellite-only zone, with its 2,210 inhabitants set to be the largest single location for satellite service.
Queenstown in Tasmania is the next largest site with 1,209 eligible premises, followed by Christmas Island with 915 sites. Tara in Queensland is the largest "mainland" service site for NBN Satellite, with 828 eligible premises, while Halls Creek in Western Australia finishes out the top five with 741 premises.
The entire list spans 11,517 locations, although only the top 809 have more than 100 available premises. There are944 locations which are currently provisioned only for a single connection, ranging from Abbey in Western Australia to Zadows Landing in South Australia.
The top 100 locations by number of eligible premises runs as follows. The presence of a location on this list doesn’t automatically mean that they are satellite-only locations; simply that satellite provisioning forms at least part of the NBN service for that area.

I live in the Wudinna District Council. Can I get free to air TV via the nbn network? If so, what channels would be available?
Hi Lindsay,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The NBN network provides broadband connection and not free to air TV signal or channels. However, you may watch live TV contents online through various streaming websites or subscribe to an Internet TV or online streaming services to be able to watch movies and TV shows through your devices or TV using the Internet.
Please check other online streaming services to learn more about your options.
Kind regards,
Jason
How to compare NBN satellite plans?
Hi Susanne,
Thanks for your question.
If you can’t access a traditional fixed-line NBN product like Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) or Fibre To The Node (FTTN), you can compare your Satellite NBN options through our website. On the same page, you can “Filter the results” based on the price, plan type, and data plan usage.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
May
