Free NBN upgrade coming to 200,000 properties: Is your suburb included?
Half a million Aussie homes and business will now be eligible for 10 times faster NBN speeds.
NBN Co has revealed its latest list of suburbs and towns that will be eligible for an NBN upgrade, free of cost.
Around 200,000 homes and business that are currently being served by Fibre to the Node (FTTN) will be able to access Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) upgrades.
They will join 300,000 other properties that were made eligible for faster NBN back in August.

FTTN is known for offering sub par speeds, between 25-50Mbps. Upgrading to FTTP normally costs a hefty $15,000 that most people aren't able to afford.
"Over the last 12 months we have so far identified the suburbs and towns where 1.6 million premises will benefit from fibre pushed deeper into communities so that more customers can access NBN Home Fast, Home Superfast or Home Ultrafast services," Kathrine Dyer, Chief Operating Officer at NBN Co, said in a media release.
It is expected that providers will begin taking orders for higher speed tiers from the first eligible customers from March 2022.

Why is the NBN upgrade big news?
Buffering Internet is the absolute worst when you're working from home or looking to binge watch your favourite show.
Households with 4+ people might especially suffer with 25-50Mbps speeds if everyone is online at the same time.
With this NBN upgrade, you will be able to get anywhere between 100-250Mbps. These speeds are much more suitable for larger households.
How much will faster plans cost?
Providers like Telstra, Optus and TPG stopped offering NBN 100 plans to FTTN customers as the technology hasn't been able to support faster speeds.
However, once your home receives its NBN upgrade, you can definitely start taking advantage of NBN 100 plans and above.
Providers these days are always offering new customers 6-month discounts, so you should be able to get faster Internet for cheaper.
For example, one of the cheapest NBN 100 plans on Finder is from Superloop.
The plan is priced at $69.95 per month for the first 6 months and then $89.95 per month after that.
Similarly, one of the cheaper NBN 250 plans on Finder comes from Tangerine at $94.90 monthly for the first 6 months. The price goes up to $109.90 a month thereafter.
Most NBN plans these days are contract free so you can easily switch between providers.
