Hello, Yes, if you have Star Alliance Gold status, you are generally entitled to bring one guest into a Star Alliance lounge when traveling on a Star Alliance or Connecting Partner flight. Both you and your guest must be flying on the same Star Alliance or Connecting Partner flight departing from the same airport. Enjoy your trip!

Hi
Will the balance transfer amount accrue star alliance points?
Richard Whitten Finder

Hi Kas,
You can’t earn points on balance transfers. You can earn points on eligible transactions, which HSBC defines as “exclud(ing) interest free and other promotions, balance transfers, cash transfers, business expenses, cash advances, fees and charges, BPAY, any disputed transactions and government fees and charges.”

How can you get the gold star alliance status after the first 12 months? Do you have to spend $60,000 in the first 12 months?

Hi John, Yes, that’s correct – to maintain your gold status, you’d need to spend $60,000 on the card during the “qualification year” – which is the the 12 months after you received the status, which is effectively 15 months after you get the card. So you’d need to spend $4,000 in the first 90 days, then $60,000 in the next 12 months. (You might also qualify for Gold based on the amount of flying you do with the airline you choose to earn the status with.) Hope this helps.

Are supplementary card holders covered by travel insurance if travelling separately than the main card holder
Sarah Megginson Finder
June 27, 2024
Hi Justin,
No, the condition of the insurance policy is that it’s valid for the cardholder and their spouse/children when travelling together. If the cardholder is not travelling, the policy isn’t activated.

Hello, Does the additional care holder enjoy the Golden Star Alliance benefit? Like lounge access, private check-in?
Amy Bradney-George Finder
January 31, 2024
Hi Jody,
Additional cardholders are not eligible for HSBC Star Alliance Rewards membership, so the benefits and offer is limited to the primary cardholder. But if the primary cardholder gets Gold Status, they may be able to share some of the status benefits with an additional cardholder when they’re travelling together. I hope this helps.
