Key takeaways
- 22 out of 49 NBN providers in our database offer Australia-based customer support. This includes the likes of Launtel, Leaptel, Aussie Broadband, Telstra and Mate.
- From our survey, around 80% of Aussies said customer support was important or very important to them.
- There's a common misconception that just because an internet provider is Australian-owned, their customer support must be based in Australia.
Picking an NBN provider can be overwhelming with so many choices. Comparing price and speed is relatively simple, but finding one with good customer support? That's the tricky part.
If you're particular about customer service being right here in Australia, this guide's for you.
Which NBN providers have Australian call centres?
There are quite a few providers in our database that have decided to keep their call centre operations local, which include those listed in our table.

Keep in mind we've left off any provider whose call centres are both onshore and offshore.
We've kept providers like Telstra on the list because, although their chat support may be overseas, a phone call always connects you to Australia-based staff.
Providers like mate and Buddy Telco are also included as special cases, because while they don't have call centres, their digital-only support is all onshore.
Here's look at some of the popular NBN providers with Australian call centres in the next section.
Aussie Broadband
Aussie Broadband has built a reputation off of its commitment to customer service, which includes boasting a 100% Australian support team. That's one of the reasons it was the most loved brand in Finder's 2025 Broadband Customer Satisfaction Awards for the third time in a row.
Its customer support options include:
- Calling its customer support team Monday to Sunday between 8am and midnight
- Live chat support
- Option to request a call back
Telstra
Telstra moved all its call centres that service Australian customers and small businesses back to Australia. Telstra CEO Andy Penn announced the decision back in July 2022, saying it has come after the company heard from it's customers "loud and clear" that they wanted more local support.
Its customer support options include:
- Calling its product, plans and services team Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm AEST
- Calling its technical support team Monday to Sunday, 7am to 11pm AEST
- Live chat support (might not be Australia-based)
Mate
Mate is 100% Australian owned with a customer service also based right here in Australia. It doesn't have a call centre but you can contact it staff via:
- Live chat support
- Sending an email on support@letsbemates.com.au

Are these the only internet providers with Australian call centres?
We've only included NBN providers in our database that still answer calls right here in Australia.
Note that there may be some smaller, state- or suburb-specific providers we haven't covered.
Over the years, many of Australia's biggest NBN providers have shifted their main call centres offshore to cut costs.
Others like TPG, Dodo, Exetel and Optus have adopted a hybrid model: initial customer-facing roles remain in Australia, with "overflow" support teams based in South and South-East Asia.
Do all Australian-owned providers have Aussie call centres?
Not necessarily. Just because an NBN provider is Australian-owned doesn't mean that its call centres are located in Australia.
While many big telcos use some form of off-shore support to handle the volume of requests from their large customer bases, the providers that have stayed local with their customer service have made it a point of pride in being Aussie-only.
With so many plans and providers out there, having an Australian call centre can be enough of a unique feature for some providers to be considered over others.
