Our Verdict

  • SGIO is one of the few insurers to automatically cover floods and storm surge. Some will make you pay extra for it.
  • Its Plus cover is a good option if you're looking for a comprehensive policy. Features like accidental damage, motor burnout and a 25% safety net take the guesswork out of what to get covered for.
  • You get 5% off a combined building and contents insurance – most insurers offer at least 10% while insurers such as Australian Seniors and Budget Direct take up to 30% off when you sign up online.
Sorry! We currently don't have this brand on our panel. But don't fret, you can head to the SGIO Home Insurance website or compare a bunch of other home insurance companies with Finder.

All home insurance policies will have general exclusions. Here are some things you won't be covered for with SGIO.

Here's some information on SGIO Home Insurance complaints

We looked at home insurance complaint data from the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) between July 2020 and June 2021. The data breaks down different underwriters and compares their business size to the number of complaints processed.

When comparing insurers, keep in mind that insurers with a larger market share serve more customers, so can potentially get more complaints.

Here's an overview of how SGIO (Insurance Australia Limited) did:

  • Almost half (40.14%) of Insurance Australia Limited's complaints were able to be resolved directly with the customers.
    • It received a large proportion of complaints compared to other similarly sized insurers, though did receive fewer than AAI. This could suggest it's not the best choice for customer service.

This is the bottom line about SGIO

SGIO Home Insurance is a good overall home insurer compared to other policies on the market. It comes with plenty of benefits included as standard and a higher level of cover for those looking for the most comprehensive option. SGIO does fall behind other insurers when it comes to sign-up bonuses but you can get bigger discounts the longer you stay insured.

      Hi John,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

As you are aware, contents insurance provides crucial financial protection for all your most treasured possessions and that includes your safe even if that is fixed in your home. If you are considering taking out home insurance with SGIO, please visit their official page or contact them directly to request for quotation.

Alternatively, refer to the link above to compare brands offering content insurance. You can start comparing quotes between insurers by clicking on the “Get Quote” button.

Please ensure you review the relevant Product Disclosure Statements/Terms and Conditions before you sign up for a policy.

      I hope this helps.

      Have a great day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni
