  We used price, complaints and popularity score (how many customers each one has) to rank electricity providers in Queensland. We used the following weighting against each to determine rankings:

  Basic electricity plan price: The prices we've used (true as of 3 June 2022) are based on a residential electricity customer in Brisbane (we used the postcode 4000). This assumes that the customer uses 4,600kWh per year on a single rate tariff on the Energex network. Keep in mind your actual bill may vary, depending on your usage and any changes in conditional discounts.

  Complaints: Our main source of truth is the Annual Retail Markets (AER) Report (2020–2021) which looked at complaints made to the 10 largest energy retailers available in Queensland.

  Popularity: We've used the AER report to determine the largest retailers in Queensland.
