How to get the $250 energy bill bonus in Victoria

If you're in Victoria and having a difficult time managing your energy bills, this bonus payment will come as a small relief.
Those who live in Victoria and are doing it tough can claim a $250 cashback on their energy bills.
The money will automatically be transferred to your bank account once you apply. You may also be provided a cheque on request.
The deadline for claiming the cashback is 31 January 2022.
Who is eligible for the $250 Power Saving Bonus?
As long as you hold a pensioner concession card or receive JobSeeker, you will be eligible for the bonus payment.
You could also qualify if you receive Austudy, ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance, or if you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card.
Keep in mind. Each household will be entitled to 1 bonus payment on their power bills.
Not eligible for the $250 bonus payment? You might be able to save by comparing energy providers and switching instead.
Why is Victoria's state government offering the $250 power bonus?
The $250 Power Saving Bonus is part of the Victorian state government's $797 million investment aimed at helping residents reduce the cost of their power bills and make their homes more energy-efficient.
So far, 300,000 payments totalling $76.6 million have been made to Victorians since the program was established 12 months ago.
While the $250 cashback payment isn't new, minister for Energy, the Environment and Climate Change Lily D'Ambrosio believes some people may not know about it and encourages more people to apply.
"There are still many Victorian households who are eligible for help with their energy bills through this bonus and I encourage everyone who needs help to apply," D'Ambrosio said in a media release.
"This one-off $250 payment provides immediate financial relief for those struggling to pay their power bills."
"We want to help as many vulnerable households as we can – whether that's through a quick call with the Victorian Energy Compare helpline or by a visit to one of program partners."
