Dodo mobile plans review

Dodo's a strong pick for month-to-month plans on the Optus network.

Most of its plans hold up well against our $1 per GB benchmark, and whether you're a light user, somewhere in the middle, or need a decent chunk of data, there's a good chance you'll find a plan that works.

They're great for those who want perks like data rollover, international credit, and roaming add-ons when travelling overseas.

Pros

  • Unlimited data banking on most plans
  • No excess data charges
  • International call credit and international roaming day packs are available
  • Up to $10 a month bundling discount for internet and energy

Cons

  • Access to 5G is restricted to the 40GB and 60GB plans
  • There's no mobile app to help you track data usage or manage your plan

Coverage

You'll get the same coverage as Optus, Australia's second-largest network. Its 4G covers 98.5% of the population, while 5G is still rolling out, reaching 80.5% across 4,000 sites.

5G can mean faster, more reliable mobile internet, especially in busy areas. You'll need a compatible phone with 5G coverage in your area, and Dodo's 40GB or 60GB plan to use it.

There's one catch. Like some other providers, Dodo caps 5G download speeds at 100Mbps. However, that's still plenty for online activities on your phone.

Keep in mind: Those in some regional and remote areas may notice the small difference between Optus's 98.5% and Telstra's 99.7% population coverage.

Bonus features

We've already touched on Dodo's bonus features briefly - here's a rundown with more details.

🌏 International call credit and roaming packs

You can get anywhere between $100 to $400 worth of international call credit. The exact amount will vary based on the plan you sign up to.

For an extra $5 a month, you can get 100 more international call minutes, handy for keeping in touch with friends or family overseas.

🔄 Data banking

Another handy perk with Dodo is data banking, which lets you save unused data for future use instead of losing it.

You'll have access to unlimited data banking on most plans. The smallest 15GB plan has a 500GB cap.

💰 No excess charges

You won't have to worry about bill shock, ever. If you use up your monthly data allowance, Dodo will simply cap your internet speeds to 256Kbps until your next billing cycle.

The speed will be good enough for extremely light activities such as sending and receiving messages on WhatsApp or checking emails.
