What additional cover options are available

There are several additional covers available with an IMB home insurance policy, including:

  • Accidental damage: Available for both buildings and contents, this benefit covers damage, caused unintentionally. For example, spilling a tin of paint on your carpet.
  • Motor burnout: Available for both buildings and contents, this covers repair or replacement of certain electrical items, if an electrical current damages your household electrical motors.
  • Domestic worker's compensation cover: Only offered in Tasmania, WA and the ACT, this covers you if a domestic worker suffers an injury or illness due to the work at your home.
  • Portable contents: Available for both buildings and contents, this covers loss or damage to personal items designed to leave your insured address, such as a handbag or jewellery.

How to make a claim

To claim on your IMB home insurance policy, you can complete an online form or give Allianz a call on 1300 555 030. Before you start your claim, you should have details on hand including reasonable proof of loss, your policy information, information about the incident, details about the loss or damage, and information about anyone else involved.

Australian Unity home insurance complaints information

IMB home insurance is provided by Allianz Australia Insurance. In the 2023-2024 financial year, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) received 760 complaints in relation to Allianz' home building insurance and 103 in relation to its home contents insurance. However, the insurer is one of the largest in the country and its complaints numbers are similar to that of other very large insurers, including QBE, which received a combined 813 complaints for its home and contents cover.
