Red Energy review

Red Energy has established itself as one of the major power retailers in the country outside the big 3 (AGL, Origin Energy, EnergyAustralia).

It was also voted as the Most Loved Electricity Provider (National) in Finder's 2026 Customer Satisfaction Awards, receiving other accolades in state-based categories.

One of the biggest draws of signing up with Red Energy is earning Qantas Points. New customers can score 10,000 bonus points when they sign up for an electricity plan, plus another 5,000 points if they also sign up for gas.

After that, every dollar you spend on the Qantas Red Saver plan will earn you an additional 2 points.

The main thing to check is whether its rates are competitive for where you live. If they're higher than what you're currently paying, they could reduce the value of any rewards you earn.

Beyond the plans themselves, Red Energy leans on a few perks to sweeten the deal, from Qantas Points to a wildlife conservation partnership.

Earn Qantas Points

If you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer, Red Energy's Qantas Red Saver plans let you earn 2 Qantas Points per $1 spent on your electricity and gas bills, as long as you pay on time.

New customers can also pick up 10,000 bonus Qantas Points when you pay your first electricity bill in full, plus another 5,000 bonus points for gas.

Support Taronga with the Red Wildlife Saver plan

Red Energy is a Principal Partner of Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, and powers both with 100% renewable electricity.

Sign up to the Red Wildlife Saver plan if you live in NSW and Red Energy will contribute $5 a month, up to $60 a year, to Taronga Conservation Society Australia to help protect endangered native species like koalas and marine turtles.

Support breast cancer research with the Red BCNA Saver plan

Red Energy is also partnered with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).

Sign up to the Red BCNA Saver plan and Red Energy contributes $5 per fuel each month, up to $120 a year, to BCNA on your behalf.

This plan is available in NSW, VIC, SA, South East QLD and the ACT.

Manage your account with the Red Energy app

The Red Energy app lets you track your usage, view and pay bills, and manage your account from your phone, so you're not stuck waiting on hold for the small stuff.

Refer a friend

Refer a friend who switches their electricity or gas to Red Energy and you'll both get a $25 eGift Card.

If you're on a Qantas Red plan, you can choose 1,500 Qantas Points instead of the eGift Card for each successful referral.

Add accredited GreenPower

Red Energy is an accredited GreenPower provider, so you can choose to match your electricity use with renewable energy added to the grid from accredited wind, solar and hydro generators.

The GreenPower add-on sits on top of your standard usage charges as an extra rate because Red Energy buys renewable energy certificates to match your usage. This means you'll pay a little extra for adding it on.

How does Red Energy rate for customer service?

Red Energy is owned by Snowy Hydro, which makes it 100% Australian-owned, and its call centres are based in Australia too.

I was told there was no exit fee for Red. I am concerned that my private info is floating around with so many suppliers in this game?
