A no-frills policy designed with affordable premiums in mind, Third Party Property Damage Insurance offers $20 million of legal liability cover when the use of your vehicle causes accidental loss or damage to someone else’s property or supplementary bodily injury. Cover is also included for loss or damage resulting from a no-fault accident with an uninsured motorist.

What isn't covered?
Your Hume Car Insurance claim will not be paid if:
- Your car was being driven by an unlicensed driver at the time of an incident
- Your car was being driven by someone shown in your policy as a declined driver
- Your car was being driven by someone under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Your car was carrying more people or a larger load than it was designed to carry
- Your car was being driven in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition
- Your car was being used to carry passengers for hire, fare or reward
- Your car was being used for motor sport or in connection with the motor trade
- It results due to a deliberate, intentional, malicious or criminal act by you, anyone else named in the policy schedule, or anyone acting with your consent
- It is for loss of use of your vehicle
- It is for tyre damage caused by the application of brakes or by road punctures, cuts or bursts
- It is for accidental loss or damage that results from the lawful seizure of your car
- You fail to take reasonable steps to safeguard your car after an accident, theft or breakdown
- If you left your keys in your car when it was unattended and the car was stolen
- It is caused by the failure of a computer or similar equipment
- It is for loss or damage caused by cyclone, flood or bushfire in the first 72 hours of cover
What excess is charged?
The excess is the amount you are required to contribute towards the cost of a claim. There are several excesses that may apply, and the insurer will let you know if an excess is payable when you make a claim.
The excesses that may apply to your Hume Car Insurance policy include:
- Basic excess. This is the first amount you must pay on each claim and it is made up of:
- The minimum basic excess, which is the minimum amount that is due for each claim.
- The voluntary excess, which applies if you choose a higher excess in return for cheaper premiums.
- The imposed excess, which the insurer may choose to apply to your policy in specific circumstances.
- Age excess. The age excess is payable if you claim for an accident that occurred when your vehicle was being driven by someone under 25 years of age.
- Undeclared young driver excess. If you make a claim for an accident when your vehicle was being driven by someone under 25 who was not listed on your policy schedule, you will need to pay this excess.
- Inexperienced driver excess. This excess must be paid when the driver of your vehicle at the time of an accident is 25 years or older but has not held a driver’s licence for two consecutive years leading up to your claim.
- Theft excess. This excess is payable when you make a claim arising from the theft or attempted theft of your car.
- Driver excess. The insurer may choose to impose an excess on specific drivers listed on your policy.
- Unnamed driver excess. If the named driver option applies, this $2,500 excess must be paid when you make a claim for an accident and your vehicle was being driven by anyone not listed on your policy as a named driver.
- Restricted driver excess. This $2,500 excess applies when you have selected the restricted driver option and your vehicle was being driven by someone under 25 years of age at the time of an incident.
How to save on your Hume Car Insurance policy
There are several things you can do to minimise your Hume Car Insurance premium, such as:
- Choose a higher excess. You can vary your excess amount to receive cheaper premiums.
- Restrict drivers. By restricting cover to drivers under a certain age or to drivers specifically named in your policy, you can enjoy cheaper car insurance premiums.
