ING offers the serious saver a tiered savings account that could accelerate your financial growth. Rates are variable and tiered, applied to every cent in your savings account. The Savings Accelerator will need to be linked to another account to allow you to move your money in and out easily.
Upcoming changes:
On 1 May 2026, changes are coming to Savings Accelerator, including new balance tiers, new interest rates, and a switch to stepped interest where each part of your account balance earns the rate for its tier. You can learn more about the change via ING's site.
ING is Australia's most loved brand for savings accounts this year. With the bank consistently offering market-leading interest rates on its popular Savings Maximiser account, it's not hard to see why it came out in the top spot.

Linked account details. The account number and name of another banking account, either with ING or other Australian financial institution, in order for the account to be linked to the Savings Accelerator so that you can transfer funds freely.
What happens after I submit my application?
If ING does not need any additional information from you, they will notify you when the account is opened and provide you with the details. If you have opted for a linked account that is not with ING, you will need to complete a direct deposit or deposit a cheque into the Savings Accelerator before it can be activated.

Hi Mark,
Yes you can withdraw your money and close your account at any time without financial consequences. You can deposit your funds for four months, earn the interest, wait for it to be credited to your account and then withdraw the full amount and close the account if you wish.

I have a joint orange everyday account with my wife . Am I entitled to the 5.40% saving accelerator rate for the first 4 months

Hi Graeme, You need to be a new customer to qualify for the bonus rate. Because you’re not a new customer to ING, you won’t be eligible. You can check out a few different accounts you may be eligible for here. Hope this helps!
do I have to increase the balance in my ING savings account every month to receive the full interest rate?

Hi Ingrid,
No, you don’t have to increase the balance in your ING Savings Accelerator account every month to receive the interest rate. However this is requirement for the ING Savings Maximiser, which requires monthly growth. Hope this helps!

I have only been with ING for a short time, and started with Orange card account and then Savings Maximiser account. I have just transferred across to Savings Accelerator and need confirmation if I qualify for the 5.00% interest rate for 4 months. If this means my interest rate is worse off I will move away from ING my balance is over 150K so I had to move across from the Savings Accelerator.
Unfortunately if you’ve held an INg Savings Maximiser account in your name then you are not eligible for the special 5.00% rate on the ING Savings Accelerator. The variable kick starter rate is not available on a Savings Accelerator if any account holder has ever held a personal savings account with ING.

Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
