Vaya claims to have no bull, no fat and more choice on its plans. While you might never have heard of Vaya before, it's been around for seven years and counting, offering simple plans with decent data for dollar value.
Highlights
Vaya has a set of simple SIM-only plans on offer, whether you need a whole lot of data or just a little.
Vaya offers a decent range of SIM-only plans. These are all postpaid, so you'll get a certain amount of data and be billed at the end of the month. All plans include unlimited talk and text.
Excess data past your limit is charged at $10 per 1GB. You can add on 200 minutes of international calls to 100 countries for $2 to all but the cheapest plan. A charge of $5 applies if you want to switch your mobile plan on Vaya.
Vaya sells a number of straightforward mobile plans operating on the Optus network. It started operating in Australia around 7 years ago, and has served 500,000 customers.
While it doesn't have many special features on its plans, the amount of data you get for the price you're paying makes Vaya's plans worth considering. Here's what you can get with Vaya:
We've also put together a table that lets you see Vaya's overall plan features at a glance:
Feature | |
---|---|

Vaya's plans don't have much to them, but that doesn't mean they're not worth buying. If you want an uncomplicated plan with good data value, the majority of Vaya's plans provide data at a rate of less than $1 per 1GB, which is a standard charge.
They don't have any extra features, though, so you might want to look at bigger providers like Optus or Telstra if you want fancy inclusions.
To give you an idea of how well Vaya holds up against other mobile providers, we've put its plans up against Optus (its network provider) and Belong (another popular mobile provider).
Vaya | Optus | Belong | |
---|---|---|---|
Plan name | Unlimited XL | Medium Optus Choice | Large |
Plan cost | $44 | $49 | $40 |
Data allowance | 50GB | 60GB | 40GB |
Data per dollar spent | $0.88 per 1GB | $0.82 per 1GB | $1.00 per 1GB |
None | None | Data sharing, 5G access, Optus Sport, international inclusions | International inclusions |
Vaya sits right in the middle of these two providers when it comes to data value. It provides slightly more than Belong while costing slightly more, and slightly less data than Optus while costing slightly less.
The main drawback with Vaya is that it's light on features, so you'll definitely get more extras if you go with a major provider like Optus.
Vaya does not provide any international roaming at all, so your service will not function when you're overseas. Vaya used to have a system where you could get PAYG service overseas for a $200 bond, but this is no longer available to new customers.
By default, you can make international calls with PAYG rates that start at 2c/min. On all plans except the cheapest, you can add on 200 minutes for calling 100 overseas countries, which will cost you an extra $2 per month.

Hi I am on 24 months plan with Vodafone right now, which is going to finish by end of January.if I want to move with Vaya 12months prepaid plans for $18 a month with same old number I am using right now. what should I have to do?
Hi Nig,
Thanks for your question.
Most mobile plan providers allow for number porting. You just have to directly contact your new provider to request this.
You can read more about number porting through our website.

Anndy
Does it available for international roaming?
Hi Kai,
Thanks for your question.
Yes, simply call Vaya or login to your ‘My Account’ online to activate Global roaming. Vaya does require a $200 bond payment from a nominated credit card in order to activate Global Roaming.
Cheers,
May

Hi Niro,
You can order Vaya’s SIM from their web site, but they don’t offer a student discount.
