Qantas and TripADeal: What the new deal means for frequent flyers
You can now earn and use Qantas Points for TripADeal holidays – plus save on the $99.50 joining fee if you're not a frequent flyer member yet.
These options come after Qantas bought a 51% stake in TripADeal, making it a majority shareholder of the online travel business.
Based in Byron Bay, TripADeal offers well-priced holiday packages and tours, ranging from African safaris and Japanese ski trips to Bali beach holidays, adventures in Antarctica and luxury cruises.
"It's an Aussie success story built on delivering ready-made holidays at very sharp prices, and their level of repeat customers shows how well they do it," Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said in a statement about the deal.

Joining Qantas Frequent Flyer for free through TripADeal
If you're not a member of Qantas Frequent Flyer yet, you're typically expected to pay a one-off $99.50 joining fee. Right now, you can sign up through the TripADeal website and save on that fee.

Earning Qantas Points with TripADeal
You'll earn 3 Qantas Points per $1 spent on TripADeal holiday packages. This is one of the higher earn rates for hotel, accommodation and travel partners, on par with the points you earn with Qantas Hotels and Airbnb.
To get the points, you just need to enter your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership details when you book. You'll even see the exact number of points you earn on the booking page.
Keep in mind that the Qantas Points will be added to your account up to 8 weeks after hotel check-out, cruise or tour completion. So any cancelled trips won't earn points through TripADeal.
Using Qantas Points with TripADeal
You can redeem Qantas Points to pay for some or all of your TripADeal holiday, with a minimum redemption of 4,000 points.
Some of the current holiday deals you can get include:
- 10-day tour of Japan. Including Qantas flights, accommodation in Tokyo, Osaka and Gifu plus a tour of Mt Fuji. Packages from 140,000 points + $1,399 per person, twin share.
- 9-day package to explore India's famed Golden Triangle. This covers Agra, Delhi and Jaipur, including Qantas flights, visits to the Taj Mahal and Chandni Chowk Market. Packages from 125,000 points + $1,249 per person, twin share.
- 17-day tour of Alaska, Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains. Including Qantas flights, a 7-night Glacier Experience cruise and visits to Yellowstone National Park, Vancouver and the Great Falls in Montana. Packages from 250,000 points + $2,499 per person, twin share.
You'll also earn 3 points per $1 on the paid part of a trip when you use the Points Plus Pay option.
If you have a heap of Qantas Points you want to use, you can also pay for entire packages with points. Just keep in mind that it won't typically give you the highest value for your points (that's usually achieved with reward flights and upgrades).

TripADeal co-founder Richard Johnston said in a statement that the company's goal was to make it "easier for people to take amazing holidays essentially at the click of a button".

And frankly, it's great news for anyone wanting to take a special trip."
