Qantas launches online Reward Flight bookings with Japan Airlines
You can now use your Qantas Points to make online Reward Flight bookings with all oneworld partners.
Qantas has announced that Frequent Flyers can use their points to book Reward Flights online with all oneworld Alliance partners. Before today, Qantas Frequent Flyers could do this with all oneworld members except Japan Airlines (JAL).
Previously, Qantas Frequent Flyers had to make reward seat bookings with JAL by phoning the Qantas contact centre. But in good news for everyone who hates customer service phone queues (everyone), you can now do this from the convenience of your laptop or smartphone.
“Booking a reward seat is the most popular way Qantas Frequent Flyer members like to use their points and being able to do that online with all of our oneworld partners makes that process much easier,” said a spokesperson from Qantas.
If you do want to redeem your Qantas Points for a flight with a partnered airline, you can visit the Qantas website and opt to book a Classic Flight Reward. Depending on your departure and destination, you can browse flight options with Qantas and partner airlines. For example, if you’re flying to Japan, you may find that you can book a flight from Sydney to Singapore with Qantas and then take a flight with JAL from there to Tokyo with your points.
As always, Reward Flight options are subject to availability and it’s worth comparing a few options before you make a decision. However, at least having the option to book flights with oneworld alliance partners just got a whole lot easier.

Most bookings made through the Qantas website or app with a flight number starting with QF are eligible for a Classic Upgrade Reward. However, keep in mind that this is a request only and that you may not be granted the upgrade if seats are unavailable or if someone on a higher membership tier than you has requested the Upgrade Reward. What is the equivalent of one JAL mileage point for Qantas frequent flyer points?

Determining the equivalent Qantas frequent flyer point for each Jal mileage point is tricky. For one, Japan Airlines reward flights can’t be booked via the Qantas website. As of this time, bookings can only be made by calling the Qantas Frequent Flyer service centre. So, best is to call them.
However, just to give you an idea, If you’re planning to fly from Sydney or Melbourne to Tokyo, you would need around 63,000 Qantas points if ever you choose premium economy. If you choose regular economy, you would need 42,000 Qantas points. You also need to remember that there are other fees to pay such as taxes, miscellaneous fees, and charges which varies from flight to flight.
