What you need to know about Mate NBN plans

Mate is an Australian-owned Internet service provider and mobile service provider that focuses on affordable Internet access. With a locally-based customer service team and no lock-in contracts on any of its plans, Mate promises "cracking" customer service alongside high value, yet simple plans.

Mate offers standalone NBN plans and NBN bundles, with an option for each of the NBN speed tiers. All plans come with no lock-in contracts and unlimited data included. There is no modem or physical phone bundled in with your Mate NBN plan, though you can buy a device separately for an additional fee.

What are the different Mate NBN bundles?

Mate offers NBN connectivity to customers in the fixed areas of the NBN footprint. It covers fibre to the premises (FTTP), fibre to the node (FTTN), fibre to the building (FTTB), fibre to the curb (FTTC) and fixed wireless connections, as well as NBN over HFC. Mate does not support NBN over satellite at this time.

With just four simple NBN plans, there's not a lot to differentiate what's on offer. Customers can pick their desired speed tier and optionally add on a phone line service for $9 per month.

    • Good Mates NBN with a Basic I NBN connection and unlimited data for $59 a month
    • Great Mates NBN with a Basic II NBN connection and unlimited data for a month
    • Best Mates NBN with a Standard NBN connection and unlimited data for $69 a month
    • Soul Mates NBN with a Fast NBN connection and unlimited data for $79 a month

Customers can opt for a pre-configured modem (a Netcomm NF18ACV) for $149 at sign-up, or they can bring their own compatible modem at no charge. No set-up fee is levied by Mate, and customers can change plans without charge.

If you're looking for more than just a standalone Internet service, Mate offers phone and Internet bundles for $9 extra a month. These bundles include a voice over IP (VoIP) phone service with unlimited local, national and mobile calls within Australia. You'll need a VoIP-capable device to make use of this, though, but it's worth noting that the optional Netcomm NF18ACV modem supplied by Mate can handle all this for you.
