Once you've joined, you'll receive your KrisFlyer membership number which you'll need to have whenever you want to earn points on flights or other transactions.
You'll need to be aged 16 or above to join but parents and guardians can sign up children from age 2 and up.
Our expert says
"The most annoying aspect of Krisflyer is that your points expire 3 years after you earned them - so you'll often end up using them on a lower-value redemption like shopping. If you're regularly flying to Singapore, it's a decent scheme, but for most Australians your options with Qantas or Velocity will be better."
The number of points you’ll earn will vary depending on which cabin class you’re flying in. For example, let’s look at the difference in points you’d earn depending on whether you’re flying in Economy or Business from Sydney to Singapore.
Although there aren’t any credit cards that directly earn KrisFlyer Miles in Australia, there are plenty of cards with rewards that can be exchanged for frequent flyer miles with Singapore Airlines.

How much are KrisFlyer Miles worth?
KrisFlyer Miles, like most points, don’t have an intrinsic value. Their value is determined by how you choose to spend them.
We regard the best value for your points to be redeeming them for flights and flight upgrades.
For example, you could redeem an Apple Watch Series 5 for 91,800 Miles worth (SGD$734.40). Meanwhile, you could book a Business Saver Award ticket from Melbourne to Singpaore for 62,000 miles (which can be as low as $4,127).
This is just one example of how you can get more value from your Miles, so make sure to compare your options before you cash them in.
To calculate the value of your points estimate the value of your chosen reward, divide its value by the number of points needed and multiply it by 1,000.
How many KrisFlyer Miles do I need for a free flight?
You can redeem your KrisFlyer Miles for award flights with Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. The number of Miles you’ll need in order to redeem a flight reward will depend on your destination and cabin class. You can use the calculator on the Singapore Airlines website to see how many points you’ll need to redeem your reward flight.
For example, you’ll need 28,000 Miles for a one-way Economy Saver Award Ticket from Sydeny to Singapore but 62,000 Miles to redeem a Business Saver Award Ticket for the same flight.
You can also use your Miles (or a mixture of Miles and cash) to redeem flights with budget airline Scoot.
Students get a 10% discount on flights, additional checked baggage allowance and a free booking change at Singapore Airlines. Must be KrisFlyer member who is currently enrolled at an eligible college or university. T&Cs apply.
Can you use KrisFlyer Miles to upgrade to business class?
If you’ve already booked a flight with Singapore Airlines or SilkAir, you can also use your KrisFlyer Miles to upgrade your ticket.
Let’s say you booked that flight from Sydney to Singapore in Premium Economy class. If you wanted to upgrade that flight to Business class, it would cost you 47,000 Miles to upgrade from an Economy Flexi ticket to a Business class ticket.
Save on your next hotel or car rental booking by covering the cost with a combination of cash and KrisFlyer Miles.
You can use your Miles to book stays at over 300,000 hotels worldwide, including hotel chains including Rydges, Sofitel, Adina, Hyatt and more.
On the car front, you can redeem as few as 1,500 KrisFlyer Miles for discount car rental in over 29,000 locations around the world. Partners include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, SIXT and Europcar.
KrisShop.com
KrisShop is an online store where you can offload your Miles in exchange for hundreds of products across tech, fragrances and luggage to wine and spirits.
The approximate redemption rate on KrisShop is 125 KrisFlyer Miles per SGD$1 spent.
If you choose to mix Miles and cash on your purchase you’ll actually earn 1.5 Miles for every SGD$1 paid with your credit or debit card (this excludes the value of points you spent). It’s like cashback but for your points.
Donate your miles If you’re feeling philanthropic, you can donate your miles to Make-A-Wish Singapore. When you donate your Miles, they’ll be used to redeem flights for the beneficiaries of Make-A-Wish Singapore in the fulfilment of wishes that require travel.
Although you can donate your miles regardless of where you live, they can only be debited to Make-A-Wish Singapore (rather than, say, your own local Make-A-Wish foundation).
Can you buy extra KrisFlyer Miles?
Yes and no. You can’t buy extra KrisFlyer Miles directly. However, if you haven’t got enough KrisFlyer Miles for your dream reward you can always make up the difference with cash. You just need to go through your regular booking process and choose KrisFlyer Miles as the payment option.
1,050 KrisFlyer Miles is the minimum you need to offset your total fare.
How do KrisFlyer Miles status credits and status tiers work?
Unlike most frequent flyer programs, KrisFlyer has 3 rather than 4 membership tiers. KrisFlyer (entry level), KrisFlyer Elite Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Gold.
All KrisFlyer and KrisFlyer Elite Silver member privileges included
Worldwide lounge access, including Star Alliance lounges
Priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling
Complimentary Forward Zone and Standard Seat selection in Economy Class on Singapore Airlines
Star Alliance Gold status
Must have reached Krisflyer Silver tier
Reach 50,000 Elite miles within 12 consecutive months in order to get to KrisFlyer Elite Gold
Can you transfer KrisFlyer Miles?
Yes, there are a few ways to transfer KrisFlyer Miles to other programs:
Velocity Frequent Flyer Typically if you’re also a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, you can exchange your KrisFlyer Miles for Velocity Points.
This conversion programme is temporarily suspended.
When it’s active you can receive 1 Velocity Point for every 1.55 KrisFlyer Miles you convert, with a minimum transfer of 5,000 KrisFlyer Miles required for each transaction. Points transfers can’t be reversed.
Shangri-La Golden Circle hotel rewards Whether you want to redeem spa and dining vouchers, free accommodation or upgrades for an existing booking at the Shangri-La, you can exchange your KrisFlyer Miles for Shangri-La Golden Circle points. You can redeem 12 KrisFlyer Miles for 1 GC Award Point and you need to convert a minimum of 20,000 KrisFlyer Miles per transaction. Mile conversions cannot be reversed.

Frequently asked questions
Do KrisFlyer Miles points expire?
Yes, KrisFlyer Miles expire 36 months after they are earned. However, you can purchase a 6- or 12-month extension for your miles for a fee, but how long you can extend them will depend on your KrisFlyer Elite status.
You can pay US$12 per 10,000 miles or forfeit 1,200 miles for every 10,000 miles you’d like to extend.
Does KrisFlyer offer family points pooling?
No, but you can transfer KrisFlyer Miles from your child’s account. With a Parental Link set up (see your personal details page) you can transfer up to 50,000 Miles from your child’s account per year.
This costs US$5 or 500 Miles for every 5,000 KrisFlyer Miles transferred from your child’s account.
How can I claim missing KrisFlyer Miles?
Missing KrisFlyer Miles? Head to your account and select “Claim Missing Miles” within the Miles section. Download the Claim Missing Miles form from “Make a Claim”. If you’re claiming miles earned with an airline partner, select “Other Airlines”. You’ll need to provide the details of your flight(s).
It’s normal for Miles to take 6-8 weeks to be earned via non-airline partners. Claims for flights are only valid if they were taken within the last 6 months.
Do all Singpapore Airlines flights earn KrisFlyer Miles?
No, most do but all Singapore Airlines and SilkAir fares with the “G” designation are not eligible.
Do you have to live in Asia to become a KrisFlyer member?
No. You can join KrisFlyer from anywhere in the world, although some benefits are centred in Singapore just as Qantas and Velocity have benefits that are targeted for Australians.

My husband and myself have been Krisflyer members since 2008. We fly to Europe with Singapore Airlines at least once per year. Our travel office should have entered our membership nos. into all bookings, and we assumed this was done. However they did not and as it appeared that we had not booked flights for some time our membership was cancelled this year. Can we be reinstated or must we rejoin?

Hi Margaret,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately, since Qantas and Singapore Airlines are not partners, you cannot use your Qantas points to redeem for flight tickets with Singapore Airlines and also your friend’s KrisFlyer points/miles cannot be redeemed for flights with Qantas. Basically, frequent flyers points can only be redeemed for flight tickets with another airline if it happens to be a ‘partner airline’ of your chosen flight provider.
For your further information, please check the partner airlines of Qantas on our website while for Singapore Airlines are outlined above under “Flying on an eligible flight on a partner carrier” section on this page.
I hope this helps.
