Aurora is a solution for Ethereum dApp developers that allows their products to be bridged to the NEAR blockchain. Essentially, Aurora supports the use of Ethereum smart contracts on NEAR’s infrastructure. This means that not only applications, but assets, can be moved between the Ethereum and NEAR networks.
The main purpose of bridging these contracts is because the NEAR blockchain vastly outperforms Ethereum’s. NEAR has a 1 second block time (compared to Ethereum’s ~14) and gas fees of approximately ~0.02 cents, a figure substantially smaller than Ethereum’s.
Aurora is compatible with all of the main developer tools on Ethereum, as well as vital ecosystem dApps such as Metamask and Hardhat.
Due to the protocol’s Rainbow Bridge infrastructure, ETH is widely used on the Aurora framewor. The network also uses its governance token AURORA so the community can fairly participate in the project’s development.
