Why choose Medibank pet insurance?

Medibank has a number of features included in its pet insurance policies that could be suitable for your needs. These include:

  • Choice of benefit percentage. You can choose to have 70%, 80%, or 90% of eligible vet bills covered, depending on the tier of cover you select.
  • High annual benefit limits. Depending on your level of cover, Medibank offers annual benefit limits ranging from $10,000 up to $30,000 for its top-tier policy.
  • No sub-limits on key conditions. On the Pet Plus and Pet Max plans, Medibank does not impose sub-limits on high-cost claims such as tick paralysis, cruciate ligament conditions, hip joint surgery, and consultation fees.
  • Emergency boarding. Medibank policies include cover for emergency pet boarding with no sub-limit. This applies if you are unexpectedly hospitalised for two or more consecutive days or require emergency accommodation.
  • Accessible claiming and vet support. Customers have access to on-the-spot claiming at participating GapOnly vets, which covers the upfront cost so you only pay the gap, as well as 24/7 Live Vet Support telehealth services at no additional cost.

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Routine care and maintenance

How to submit a Medibank Pet Insurance claim

You can submit your claim online through the Medibank pet portal. The process requires following these specific steps:

  1. Log in to the portal. Access the secure pet portal from your computer or mobile device. If you are a new user, you will need to sign up for an account.
  2. Collect required documentation. You must obtain an itemised tax invoice and a payment receipt from your veterinarian. Ensure you also request the vet's consultation or clinical notes, as these are typically required for the assessment.
  3. Confirm payment. Unless you are using a real-time "gap" payment service at the clinic, all veterinary accounts must be paid in full before you submit your claim.
  4. Upload and detail the claim. Upload digital copies or clear photos of your itemised invoices and veterinary notes directly to the portal. You will need to fill in the required fields regarding the condition treated and the specific visit details.
  5. Final review and submission. Review the attached documentation and entered data for accuracy to avoid processing delays, then submit the claim.

Does medibank pet insurance charge the excess on the overall annual insurance or on each condition

Hi Mary, The excess is charged per condition, per policy period – so if you claimed for two different conditions any applicable excess would be payable both times.
