Potiki Pet Insurance Review

  • Gary Ross Hunter's headshot
Potiki, together with petinsurance.com.au Platinum Cover
Maximum yearly benefit
$30,000
Reimbursement rate
80%
Routine Care
Optional

Summary

Potiki, together with petinsurance.com.au, offers cover for up $30,000 a year and up to $599 of non-insurance benefits – something you won't find elsewhere.

Pros

  • It comes with 3 options – Silver, Gold and Platinum – to suit various budgets.
  • It can cover up to $30,000 worth of vet bills a year – that's more than almost every other insurer on the market.
  • It comes with Potiki Perks (worth up to $599 each year) which can include wellness items such as flea and tick treatments.
  • You can still take out the Silver policy if your pet is over 9 years old. Many insurers stop offering new policies at this age.

Cons

  • It pays 80% of eligible vet bills. This isn't bad, it's just the same as the majority of insurers.
  • It comes with a 21 day waiting period for illnesses. A small handful of insurers offer cover after 14 days.

Why choose Potiki pet insurance?

  • Covers 80% of vet bills. Potiki's petinsurance.com.au policies cover for up to 80% of your veterinary expenses when your pet suffers an illness or injury. This includes consultation and surgical costs, diagnostic tests, hospitalisation and more.
  • Claim up to $30,000 cover. There's also no annual sub-limits for vet consultations, tick paralysis, cruciate ligaments and hip joint surgery with the Platinum option.
  • $24/7 vet chat. Not all insurers offer this. It can be good if you're unable to reach a vet after work hours.
  • Easy claiming. It offers GapOnly® cover which means you only pay the difference between the vet bill and what your policy covers (lots of insurers don't offer this yet).
  • Routine cover. There's no sub-limits for vet consults on the Platinum Plan (meaning you could claim up to $30,000 a year).
