Fetch offers a simple single pet insurance policy with a high claims limit.
Pros
Claim up to $30,000 every year - that’s more than the majority of insurers.
Claims paid direct to your vet - so you’re not out of pocket a lot.
24/7 access to vet advice
Cons
There may cheaper policies elsewhere but they’ll be less comprehensive.
It's a relatively new insurer so we can't say how good (or bad) its customer service is yet.

Why choose Fetch pet insurance?
Fetch has a number of perks included in its pet insurance policies that could be right for you. These include:
High annual limit with no sub-limits. With Fetch, you get a $30,000 annual cover limit, and unlike most other pet insurance providers, there are no sub-limits on specific conditions like cruciate ligament surgery, tick paralysis, or vet consultations.
Skip waiting periods. Fetch allows you to skip standard waiting periods by following a simple in-app process and uploading a quick video of your pet to prove they are healthy, meaning you can get covered straight away.
Claims paid direct to your vet. Fetch can check your cover before treatment and pay your vet directly in real-time. You only need to pay your chosen contribution in the app, preventing you from being heavily out of pocket.
24/7 vet support. You receive access to a team of veterinary professionals day or night. You can chat with them directly through the app or call their 24/7 line for emergencies.
Choice of cover and excess. You can customise your plan depending on how much you want to spend on premiums and treatments, with options to have up to 80% or 90% or 100% of eligible vet bills covered or to choose a $0 excess.

What isn't covered by a Fetch policy?
To ensure you know exactly what is and isn't covered, always read the product disclosure statement. The following list reflects some of the general exclusions you will find with a Fetch pet insurance policy:
Pre-existing conditions
Deliberate acts, negligence, or a lack of care
Not following your vet's instructions
Routine care and vaccinations (e.g., general dental checks, grooming, microchipping, preventative parasite control)
Desexing and breeding costs
Elective and cosmetic procedures
Experimental treatments, open heart surgery, organ transplants, and genetic testing
Pet accessories, administration fees, and food for general feeding or weight management
Costs after your pet's death, such as cremation or post-mortem examinations
Claims caused by epidemics, pandemics, notifiable diseases, or illegal acts
Fetch does not offer routine care benefits as part of their insurance cover. However, if your pet has a separate healthcare plan directly from their vet, Fetch will work alongside it by covering the remainder of your pet's eligible treatments after those healthcare plan benefits (like consults or discounts) have been applied.
How to submit a Fetch Pet Insurance claim
Claims can be processed through the Fetch mobile app. The following steps outline the procedure for submitting a claim:
Initiate the claim. Open the Fetch app on your device, navigate to the "Treatments" section, and select the option for a "New Claim."
Identify the provider. Input the details of the veterinary clinic where your pet received treatment.
Data collection. Once the claim is initiated, the insurer contacts the veterinary clinic directly to request the necessary tax invoice and clinical history.
Finalise payment. If the clinic supports direct payments and the policy's pre-existing condition check is complete, the insurer calculates the covered amount. You are then required to pay your portion (gap) via the app, after which the insurer settles the remaining balance with the vet. Alternatively, if the vet does not support direct billing, the insurer reimburses you for the covered amount after the invoice has been paid in full.
Frequently asked questions
Typically, waiting periods are 2 days for injuries and 30 days for illnesses. Cruciate ligament issues are covered after 90 days. However, if you send them a new 15-second video with audio, allowing them to see that your pet has no illnesses or injuries, they let you skip the waiting periods.
No. Fetch doesn’t cover routine care and grooming. This includes bathing, grooming, clipping, de-matting and coat treatments.

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.

Hi Cindy, As you have an older dog, I’d recommend checking out insurers on our list of brands that cover older dogs. Some of these do have plans within that price range. Good luck!
