Guide Dogs Pet Insurance offers comprehensive policies only.
A percentage of your premium is donated to Guide Dogs Australia.
Pros
The 85% reimbursement rate and $20,000 annual limit are higher than almost all policies available on Finder - most only cover 80% of your bills.
A portion of your premiums goes towards Guide Dogs Australia.
It's ideal for guide dogs - you get $1,000,000 Third Party Liability, covering you for legal fees if something happens.
Cons
It's not good if you're only looking for an accident-only option since all policies cover injuries and illnesses.
Routine care is only an option with Premium care but this is generally the case with other insurers as well.

Why choose Guide Dogs pet insurance?
Guide Dogs has a number of features included in its pet insurance policies that could be right for you. These include:
High reimbursement rate. Guide Dogs offers up to 85% reimbursement on eligible vet bills under its Premium Care plan. This is higher than the 80% limit that is standard across many comparable pet insurance policies.
Charitable contribution. A percentage of your policy premium is automatically donated to Guide Dogs Australia. This goes towards funding the training and placement of guide dogs for individuals with sight loss or low vision.
Coverage for senior pets. The provider offers a specific Basic Care policy for dogs and cats aged 9 years and older that includes cover for both illnesses and specified accidental injuries. Many other insurers restrict new policies for senior pets to accident-only cover or refuse coverage altogether.
Taking your pet overseas. Guide Dogs covers eligible veterinary expenses if your pet requires unexpected treatment while travelling with you in specific locations, namely New Zealand and Norfolk Island.
GapOnly claiming. The policy supports the GapOnly payment system at participating veterinary clinics. This allows your claim to be processed on the spot so you only have to pay the out-of-pocket difference, rather than the full upfront bill.
Multi-pet discount. You can receive a 10% discount on your overall premium costs if you insure more than one pet with them.

To help give you an idea about costs for Guide Dogs pet insurance, we gathered annual quotes for a few of Australia's favourite dog breeds. Just remember, prices are going to change based on things like breed, age and your address, so it's always worth comparing policies and getting a few quotes.

Is routine neutering & spaying covered with any of the companies
NikkiMay 29, 2019
Hi Noeline,
Thanks for your inquiry!
Yes, there are companies that cover desexing your pet. You can also get a discount on this. The National Desexing Network (NDN) is a charity that aims to end pet overpopulation by making it more affordable for pet owners in financial need to have their animals desexed.
The NDN keeps a list of veterinarians on its website so you can find the nearest vet clinic that offers a discount on desexing every month of July. The registered veterinarians who participate in the NDN program don’t get any extra funding. They choose to reduce their fees out of their own concern for animal welfare.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Nikki

I already have comprehensive Dog Insurance, but would like to change to a different company. Will my dog have to go through “waiting periods” or have to wait a certain amount of time if we need to claim? How do pre-existing problems rate when you change companies?
AshJanuary 22, 2019
Hi Natalie,
Thank you for contacting finder.
Indeed, once you change the Insurer for your dog’s policy there will be at least 30 days waiting period for illness cover. The waiting period will depend on the policy that you will, you may reach out directly to Guide Dogs for the specific waiting time frame.
For Guide Dogs Pet Insurance, they do not cover pre-existing conditions that your pet showed before you take out the policy or has shown during the waiting period.
I hope this helps.

Important information about this website
Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
