It's still a decent pick if you want an iPhone and don't mind signing up with Optus.

Optus is doing Apple fans a solid. It's slashing the price of the iPhone 11 by almost 50%.

For just the iPhone 11 itself, you're looking at paying:

  • $418.32 for the 64GB model
  • $498.24 for the 128GB model

Since you'll have to get on a 12-, 24- or 36-month phone plan with Optus, you can keep costs at a minimum and pair the handset with its cheapest mobile plan – $45 a month for 20GB.

Want a newer model? The iPhone 12's also on sale from Vodafone

Optus iPhone 11 plans start at under $60 a month

Assuming you go for the 20GB mobile plan, your repayment costs between the 12-, 24- and 36-month timeframes will vary a little.

iPhone 11 64GB

  • $56.62 a month over 36 months
  • $62.43 a month over 24 months
  • $79.86 a month over 12 months

iPhone 11 128GB

  • $58.84 a month over 36 months
  • $65.76 a month over 24 months
  • $86.52 a month over 12 months

Besides the reasonable monthly payments, signing up with Optus means you also get access to Optus Sport, Optus Subhub, OS Fitness and endless data where your speeds get capped at 1.5Mbps once you've used up your data allowance.

Is it worth getting the iPhone 11 in 2022 from Optus?

Tegan Jones, Finder's tech expert, believes the iPhone 11 is still a decent pick as long as you're aware of a couple of caveats.

"If you're looking for an iPhone that's on the cheaper side, the iPhone 11 is still a decent pick," Jones explained.

"Sure, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the latest generation but it still does very well, especially at this price. Some of the goodies you do get are an ultra-wide camera, night mode photography and slow-motion video. The dynamic range also helps create some lovely shots.

However, you shouldn't expect to get the same performance as the iPhone 12 and 13 (and let's not forget that we'll get the iPhone 14 this year).

"The one thing to keep in mind is the security updates. The iPhone 11 is a few years behind and you won't get as much value here as you would with a brand new iPhone. But the good news is that Apple has been pretty good at offering around 5 years of updates."

Vodafone's also slashing prices off the iPhone 12

If you have room in your budget to pay a bit more, you can get the iPhone 12 through Vodafone and save $330 off the original RRP.

Similar to Optus, you will have to stay connected for 12, 24 or 36 months.

Assuming you want to pay the bare minimum, you can pair your repayment contract with Vodafone's cheapest mobile plan – $40 a month for 40GB.

Prices start at:

Those are the base prices for the 64GB model. You also have the option to get more storage with the iPhone 12's 128GB and 256GB variations.
