How many points can you earn through Qantas Restaurants?
Qantas's new Quandoo partnership gives you 100 points per diner. What will that add up to?
This week, Qantas is relaunching its Qantas Restaurants scheme, which lets you earn Qantas Points for restaurant bookings. Its new partner is Quandoo, which offers online and app bookings for 18,000 restaurants in a dozen countries. That's a big improvement on the previous incarnation of the program, which was an Australia-only deal (in partnership with Dimmi).
I went to the official media launch yesterday, and since then I've been musing on this question: how much could a typical frequent flyer earn from this scheme?
Each booking made through Qantas Restaurants earns 100 Qantas Points per diner. The average Australian dines out twice a week, according to a 2017 study by Intermedia.
So for the purposes of this calculation, let's assume that's a booking for two people, and that one of the two bookings during the week qualifies for Qantas Points. (Going to Maccas can still count as dining out, but it won't be on Qantas Restaurants any time soon given that you can't make reservations.)
Over the course of the year, that would add up to 10,400 Qantas Points. That's a solid number of points, and even enough for some international flights.
As with any points-earning activity, you shouldn't do it purely to earn the points. But if you're planning on dining out anyway, why not score a little bonus while you're doing it? Just remember to also pay with a card that earns points to keep boosting your total further.
