What types of cover does Everyday Pet Insurance offer?

Accidental injuries

Accidental injuries insurance covers vet bills for most accidental injuries. With Everyday Pet Insurance, you’ll be covered for:

  • Motor vehicle incidents
  • Injuries caused by another animal including rough play
  • Falls from heights
  • Cuts, lacerations and stick injuries
  • Grass seed embedment or entrapment
  • Traumatically fractured teeth
  • Near drowning
  • Burns, heatstroke or frostbite
  • Exposure to venomous bites such as snake bite and tick paralysis.
  • Reactions to bites or stings from insects, or other critters (excluding infestations such as mites or fleas
  • Toxicity from ingesting harmful substances like chocolate, rat bait or grapes (excluding any illicit drugs)
  • Ingestion of foreign objects (excluding instances of gastroenteritis caused by ingestion of inappropriate food items or common environmental substances such as garbage)

The waiting period for accidental injuries is two days and 6 months for cruciate ligament conditions.

Illnesses

If your dog or cat gets sick, Everyday Pet Insurance pays up to 90% of eligible vet bills. If you're taking out a new policy, pets over the age of 9 won't be covered for illnesses. You'll also need to serve a 30 day waiting period for illnesses. Some examples of illnesses Everyday cover include:

  • Skin allergies
  • Ear infections
  • Gastrointestinal conditions such as gastroenteritis, intestinal parasites or pancreatitis.
  • Masses, lumps and cancer
  • Eye conditions such as conjunctivitis, entropion or cataracts
  • Musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) or patella luxation (dislocating kneecap)
  • Infectious diseases such as leptospirosis, heartworm, cat flu or kennel cough
  • Urinary diseases such as urinary infection, blood in urine or blocked bladder
  • Endocrine diseases such as diabetes, Cushing’s or hyperthyroidism
  • Emergency situations such as gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), seizures and anaphylactic reactions
  • Urogenital diseases such as pyometra, hooded vulva or enlarged prostate
  • Kidney diseases such as chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury or kidney stones
  • Respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis or pneumonia

Booster and Routine Care

You have the option to add Booster Care or Routine Care to your policy, featuring a $2,000 and $120 annual limit, respectively.

Some of the conditions and treatments these cover include:

  • Dental illness treatment
  • Desexing
  • Microchipping
  • Prescription diets
  • Puppy pre-school and obedience training

What's not covered by Everyday Pet Insurance

Every policy comes with exclusions. You can usually find them in the general exclusions section of the product disclosure statement (PDS) at the bottom of the provider's website page. With Everyday Pet Insurance, you won't be covered for the following:

  • Pre-existing conditions (e.g. an illness your pet had before you bought a policy)
  • Preventative/routine items such as food, vitamins, vaccinations and microchipping (unless you have optional routine care cover).
  • Certain treatments and conditions such as the following:
  • Medicated baths
  • Accessories like pill poppers
  • Behavioural conditions, including anxiety disorders
  • Cell-replacement therapies including (but not limited to) stem cell therapy
  • Elective treatments
  • Negligence by you
  • Consequential loss, including economic loss and loss of enjoyment

How to submit an Everyday Pet Insurance claim

To submit a Everyday Pet Insurance claim you have three options:

  1. Claiming through your vet. Your vet may be able to submit your claim on your behalf through GapOnly. This means that rather than paying the full vet invoice upfront and waiting to be reimbursed, you simply pay the amount not covered by your policy. Alternatively, your vet might be able to submit your claim electronically on your behalf.
  2. Make a claim online. You can submit your claim online through Pet Portal. All you need to do is upload a copy of the invoice and consultation notes from the vet.
  3. Make a paper claim. If you prefer, you can also submit a paper claim form by post or call the company on 1300 10 1234.
