You can now add extra stops on Uber rides


Add, change, or remove a stop from the on-trip screen.

Ride-sharing app Uber has released a new feature which allows riders to add extra stops to their desired route.

The "add-a-stop" component is available for Uber users globally but is not applicable to UberPOOL rides.

Uber riders don't have to be sharing a ride to activate the feature, although it certainly can be helpful when planning to pick up friends during journeys. Users can add, change, or remove a stop from the on-trip screen.

Simply tap the "+" next to the destination box to add up to three stops at any point before or during a ride.

Previously, riders had to make vocal requests for drivers to make extra stops, and often help guide them too.

Uber users sharing a ride can still split fares, divided equally, after adding multiple stops to their journey.

Fares adjust as you add or remove stops, based on time and distance rates disclosed in the app.

The Uber app will remind you to keep additional stops to 3 minutes or less, as a courtesy to the driver. Uber begins charging a per-minute wait fee 2 minutes after a driver reaches the pickup location.

If wait times, either for the original pickup or for extra stops, are exceeded, the upfront fare quote may change.

Drivers will need to swipe their app when they arrive at a stop before directions to the next stop are displayed.

Uber says the new feature means users no longer have to update the destination while on a trip if they don't want to and that it ensures more transparency regarding the fare for both riders and drivers.

While most Uber drivers use their own cars, there's an increasing trend in Australia to rent a car specifically for use with Uber.
