TPG internet review

Our verdict: While TPG’s a major brand, its speeds and prices are actually pretty reasonable. But if you’re looking for bonus features, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Finder Awards badge

Congratulations, TPG!

TPG was a big winner in the 2025 Finder Awards.

  • Winner, Best Superfast Speeds NBN Provider
  • Winner, Best Wireless Broadband Provider

Full list of 2025 broadband winners

TPG internet review

TPG keeps its overall plan prices lower than some of the other big providers:

  • TPG's NBN 50 plan is one of the cheapest on Finder as it's one of the few major providers that has kept pricing the same, despite NBN wholesale prices going up.
  • The NBN modem is pretty affordable when stacked up against the average modem price on Finder.
  • If you're in the market for 4G or 5G home internet, TPG's home wireless plans could be a good choice, with your first month free to give it a taste.

While TPG comes with big brand energy and straightforward NBN plans, it doesn't come with any exciting features that other major providers may offer, such as entertainment bundles or a 4G back-up modem. It used to provide email addresses with its internet plans, but stopped this as of September 2023.

Things to watch out for:

  • To cancel your TPG NBN plan, you need to provide written notice 30 days in advance.
  • To cancel your TPG home wireless or 5G home broadband plan, you need to provide written notice 7 days in advance.
  • On its home wireless plans, TPG requires you to use its provided modem. It costs $0 if you stay connected with it for 24 months. If you leave before that time, you need to return the modem in good condition to TPG or you'll be charged $8 for every month remaining in your first 24 months.

A bit of background on TPG

TPG offers a diverse range of communication services to both residential and business users. It has NBN, Fibre Optic and Ethernet broadband access, telephony services, SIM Only Mobile plans and various business networking solutions.

  • Originally formed in 1986, TPG acquired iiNet in 2015 and merged with Vodafone in 2020 to become one of the leading fixed broadband providers in Australia.
  • TPG's nation-wide network is made up of Australia's largest internet exchange and third largest metropolitan fibre optic network.
  • It is Australia's second largest NBN provider according to the June 2023 ACCC Wholesale Market Indicators report.

Our expert says

"I've been with TPG for over 5+ years and moved houses twice over that time. I initially signed up because they were the cheapest plan for someone regularly working from home and for Netflix data. The reason why I've stayed with TPG is because they have been so easy to use during house moves, both times it's been working by the time I got the keys. When I've had to call with issues - they've always been easy to get hold off. The only area I'd improve is their online experience. When I need to change bank details or have missed a payment that I need to fix, it's a bit old and clunky."

What do Australians think of TPG NBN?

  • 3.93/5 overall for Customer Satisfaction - equal to the average of 3.93
  • 4.21/5 for Trust - higher than the average of 4.08
  • 3.83/5 for Customer Service - lower than the average of 3.93

Based on TPG NBN scores in Finder's 2024 & 2025 Customer Satisfaction Awards.

Performance

As of September 2025, TPG placed 3rd (out of 11 providers) when it came to download speeds during busy periods of the day. According to the ACCC Measuring Broadband Australia Report, it delivered maximum plan speeds 103% of the time during the busy hours of the day (7pm-11pm).

Why this matters: The ACCC report is a quarterly measure of a provider's performance based on speeds.

TPG has generally ranked around the middle in recent reports, typically delivering 96–102% of its maximum speeds. However, according to the latest ranking, TPG now sits third, achieving 103% of its advertised speeds. It last topped the report back in April 2021.

  • Good to know: A plan's maximum speed is the fastest a particular speed tier can go. For example, 100Mbps is the max speed for NBN 100 plans.

Customer service

TPG has a few ways to get in touch. You can get help by:

  • Calling technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For accounts and billing enquiries you can call between 8am-10pm AEST Monday to Sunday
  • Logging on to the TPG community forum and asking other users and TPG support staff
  • Live chatting online
  • Sending a message to the TPG Facebook or Twitter

The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman covers complaints data from phone and internet customers. In the 2023 Annual Report for the financial year ending June 2023, TPG:

  • Had 3.35% of all complaints, which was the fourth highest of all providers.
  • Saw a 31% decrease in complaints compared to the previous year's report.

Bonus features

TPG does have one additional feature that may be of interest to you:

Bundling discounts

Bundling your TPG internet and TPG mobile plan could get you up to $10 off your SIM Only plan.

TPG's mobile discount doesn't apply to its SIM Only Small plan. You'll need to have one of its other SIM Only plans to take advantage of its bundling discount.

How does TPG compare?

As the NBN 50 is the most common plan in Australia, here's a look at how TPG stacks up against other major internet providers for this tier. Keep in mind we've used ongoing prices for each provider (no promotional discounts applied).

What if I'm moving house?
TPG actually has a specialist house moving team you can call up to arrange your move. TPG advises that it may take between 1-10 business days to hook up your new service.

Be aware that you may need to give your current provider advance notice so you aren't stuck paying for 2 Internet services.

    Hi,
What is the difference between TPG NBN XL Unlimited and TPG NBN XXL Unlimited. The details seem to suggest speeds and everything else is the same. Also the 18 month and 1 month plan for each cost the same so what is the benefit of an 18 month plan?

      JasonNovember 23, 2016Finder

      Hi Eugene,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

Both bundles offer the same maximum connection speed at the same NBN tier. The difference was in their included call packages. While the TPG NBN XL bundle offers 100 minutes of international calls, the TPG NBN XXL bundle includes all the features and benefits of the TPG NBN XL bundle plus additional benefits such as unlimited national calls to mobile phones, unlimited international calls to Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States of America and 500 minutes of international call to India.

The 1-month plan has an additional setup fee of $99.95 while the 18-month plan waives the setup fee. You may click ‘View Details’ on your preferred plan then click the ‘Fees’ tab to get more details about the plan fees.

Please click the “Go to site” button of TPG found on this page to be redirected to their website where you can learn more.

      Cheers,
      Jason
