Key takeaways

  • Flexibility to set your annual limit (up to $30,000), benefit percentage (up to 90%) and excess.
  • Both plans include vet consultations and emergency pet boarding. Gold adds cover for dental illness, behavioural conditions and specialised therapies, but you need to take it out before your pet turns 3.
  • Any excess you choose is paid once per policy year, not on every claim.

Pros

  • Choose how much you get back on eligible vet bills, up to 90%.
  • Gold includes cover for dental illness, behavioural conditions and specialised therapies like physio and hydrotherapy.
  • Every plan covers vet bills on trips to New Zealand or Norfolk Island of up to 60 days.

Cons

  • Gold is only available if you take it out or upgrade before your pet turns 3.
  • A policy fee of up to $5 a month is charged on top of your premium.

Why choose Wise and Silent Pet Insurance?

  • Cover you can tailor: On every plan, you choose your annual limit (up to $30,000), how much you get back on eligible vet bills and whether to add an excess.
  • Consultations and boarding: Vet consultation fees for covered conditions are included, plus boarding at a licensed kennel or cattery for up to 30 days if you're unexpectedly in hospital for 4 or more days.
  • Cover for trips across the ditch: All plans cover vet bills if your pet joins you on a trip to New Zealand or Norfolk Island of up to 60 days.
  • Policy renewal you can count on: Wise and Silent won't refuse to renew your policy because of how many claims you've made or because your pet has developed a chronic condition.

What isn't covered under Wise and Silent Pet Insurance?

  • Pre-existing conditions, unless an exception is approved after a pre-existing symptoms and conditions assessment
  • Desexing
  • Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), unless a BOAS application is completed and accepted
  • Dental illness, behavioural conditions and specialised therapies, unless added as optional extras
  • Routine and preventative care, such as check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention, teeth cleaning and food
  • Vaccinatable diseases if your pet's vaccinations weren't up to date
  • Pets used for work, racing, guarding or other sporting or commercial activities

This is just a summary of general exclusions. For the full list of exclusions, please refer to the Wise and Silent Pet Insurance PDS.

How to submit a claim

You should aim to submit your claim within 90 days of your pet's treatment. You can do it yourself, or have your vet start it for you.

  1. Lodge your claim online: Log in to the WAS customer portal, complete the claim form and attach a copy or photo of your vet invoice. Alternatively, your vet can email your paid invoice and clinical notes to petclaims@wiseandsilent.com, and you'll be contacted to confirm the claim.
  2. Clinical notes are requested: WAS Pet Insurance will contact your vet for the clinical notes that relate to your invoice.
  3. Provide history if needed: You'll be told if a full treatment history is needed from your current or previous vets. Your vet can send this online or by email.
  4. Get an outcome: Most claims are assessed within 5 business days of receiving all the information needed. In most cases, your claim is paid to you rather than your vet.

For claim questions, contact WAS Pet Insurance on 1800 671 136 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm AEST) or email petclaims@wiseandsilent.com.
