What you need to know about Optus' business mobile plans

Optus' business mobile plans cover a broad range of business types, from small traders requiring a handful of mobile connections to large teams looking for an easy way to manage dozens of devices and employees with different call and data needs. Both SIM-only plans and phone-and-plan bundles are available, with SIM-only plans eligible for 12-month contracts and phone bundles limited to 24-month contracts.

All Optus' business mobile plans come with data pooling, which combines the monthly data allowances of every plan attached to an Optus business account into a single shared reserve that all users can draw from. This allows your employees with greater data needs to make use of other employees' leftover data.

Optus' business mobile plans also benefit from fast-tracked customer support and access to a 24/7 live chat channel for handling any issues you might encounter with your service.

If you sign up for any of Optus' 24-month phone plans, you can take advantage of the New Phone Trade Up program and upgrade any of your employees' handsets to a newer model after 12 months for $149, provided the current handset is in working order.

What are the different Optus business mobile plans?

Optus categorises its business mobile plans according to the size of your company, but they're the same across the board unless you're signing up for more than 150 mobile plans, in which case you'll need to contact Optus directly to organise an Enterprise mobile solution.

If you're not looking for an Enterprise solution, you have a choice between Optus' SIM-only plans and plans that come bundled with a new phone. SIM-only plans all come with unlimited national talk and text, with plans starting at $39 a month for 10GB of data and increasing to $79 a month for 120GB. Select plans also include unlimited international talk and text to eligible countries.

Optus' business phone plans also come with unlimited national talk and text. Higher-cost plans bundle in unlimited standard international talk and text to selected countries as well. Regular plan structure starts at $45 a month for 4GB of data and goes up to $125 a month for 200GB of data. Optus often sweetens this deal with bonus data offers, sometimes doubling the amount of data you receive on each plan. Plans of $105 a month or more also come with unlimited talk and text when travelling to Zone 1 destinations using international roaming, plus up to 4GB of international roaming data.

One of the advantages Optus' business phone plans have over competing services is their generous cancellation policy. Should you choose to end any 24-month phone plan before the two years is up, you won't have to pay a cancellation fee. Instead, you'll simply need to pay out the remaining cost of your handset, making it a less painful process if you need to downsize your mobile expenses in a hurry. However, 12-month SIM-only plans will incur an early cancellation fee if you decide to terminate your service before the full year has passed. The maximum early cancellation fee depends on your chosen plan, with the highest fee ringing in at $474.

Lastly, if your business exceeds its monthly data pool allowance, you'll be automatically credited another 1GB for that month only at a cost of $10. Optus will keep charging at this rate if you continue to exceed your allowance up to a maximum of 150GB over your monthly limit, at which point your service may be restricted.

Optus offers a number of extra services with its business mobile plans. For businesses that engage in a lot of international travel, Optus' $10-a-day Travel Packs get you unlimited talk and text plus 100MB of data for use in selected countries.
