Compare Harbour ISP satellite NBN plans for February 2020

Harbour ISP's Sky Muster satellite plans cater to Internet appetites both big and small.

What you need to know about Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans

Harbour ISP offers high-speed broadband Internet to regional and rural areas of Australia via the nbn co.'s Sky Muster satellite network. Like most satellite services, Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans support Basic and Standard NBN connections, though due to the nature of satellite technology and factors like weather and obstructions in the environment, the speeds you actually see will vary.

Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans make use of an on-peak/off-peak quota system where you have one monthly data cap for Internet use between the peak hours of 7am and 1am, and another for Internet use between the off-peak hours of 1am and 7am.

All Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans are available on 24-month, 12-month and month-to-month contracts for the same monthly cost. If you're looking for more than just broadband Internet, you can also bundle an Internet phone service delivered using voice over IP (VoIP) technology with any of Harbour ISP's satellite plans.

What are the different Harbour ISP satellite NBN plans?

Sky Muster satellite plans with Harbour ISP start at 10GB on-peak/75GB off-peak a month and go all the way up to 150GB on-peak/150GB off-peak a month. Each can be bundled with a home phone package including free local and national landline calls plus 1,000 minutes worth of calls to Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the UK and the US; or a home phone and mobile package with those same inclusions plus unlimited calls to Australian mobiles and 13/1300 numbers.

Additionally, Harbour ISP offers a range of Sky Muster Plus plans that don't count certain Internet activities against your monthly data cap. These activities include basic web browsing, accessing social media and using email services. The specifics around what Internet content is and isn't counted against your monthly data cap can get a little complex, so check out our guide to Sky Muster Plus if you want to know more.

Pricing for Harbour ISP's Sky Muster Plus plans is as follows:

  • Sky Muster Plus 100GB, which includes 50GB peak/50GB off-peak data for $75 per month
  • Sky Muster Plus 200GB, which includes 100GB peak/100GB off-peak data for $139 per month
  • Sky Muster Plus 300GB, which includes 150GB peak/150GB off-peak data for $195 per month

All Sky Muster Plus plans are available on month-to-month, 12-month or 24-month contracts and include a Standard speed NBN connection.

Harbour ISP also offers a promotional satellite service called PIP exclusively for students holding a valid Education ID number. Provided a household already has a Sky Muster service installed, up to three students residing there can register for a Standard NBN connection with 50GB of data at a reduced rate to assist with their studies.

How much do Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans cost?

With a Basic NBN connection, Harbour ISP's satellite NBN plans start at $35 a month for 10GB on-peak/75GB off-peak and go up to $130 a month for 150GB/150GB. If you're in the market for faster Internet, any plan can be upgraded to a Standard NBN connection for an additional $5 a month.

Combining a VoIP home phone service with Harbour ISP's satellite plans will set you back an extra $10 a month for the basic home phone package and an extra $20 a month for the home phone and mobile package.

If you need a router along with your new satellite plan, Harbour ISP will sell you a Netgear WNR2000 model for $69 on either of its 12-month or month-to-month contracts. On a 24-month contract, the modem is bundled in for free. Harbour ISP also has a range of VoIP-compatible phones and adaptors for purchase along with your satellite service, with prices starting at $70 for an ATA SP 112 adaptor for connecting your existing handset to the Sky Muster network.

Harbour ISP does not charge any excess usage fees if you go over either of your on-peak or off-peak data caps. Instead, your speed will be slowed to 128kbps during the applicable on-peak/off-peak period for the rest of your billing cycle.

On 12-month and 24-month contracts, you'll also want to keep in mind that Harbour ISP charges an early termination fee if you cancel your service before the full term is up. This fee can be as high as $350 or the cost of the monthly payments remaining on your contract – whichever of the two is less.
