Optus simplifies broadband plans and goes multi-room with Fetch

Optus has sliced its broadband offerings down to two simple plans, as well as enabling multi-room Fetch compatibility.

Optus has announced new broadband price tiers, making significant cuts to its effective plan pricing for broadband plan customers across both ADSL and NBN connections.

Optus’ new plan price tiers come in at $60 per month or $80 per month over 24 month terms, with unlimited data and a bundled phone line on either tier. The extra $20 per month can either get you a Fetch TV Mighty set top box with the premium channel pack included on a consumer plan, or a a $360 Smart Shop voucher to spend on business applications if you opt for a business plan.

Optus will also offer a single tier of broadband-only provision, but at $80 per month with no Fetch Mighty or phone line, that’s not a particularly compelling deal.

For NBN customers, the $60 plan baseline speed tier is 12/1Mbps, while the $80 plans default to a 25/5Mbps tier. An additional speed boost up to 100/40Mbps is available for an additional $20 per month.

Optus Broadband PlansMonthly CostDataExtrasMinimum 24 month cost
$60 Per Month$60UnlimitedModem, Home phone line$1,440
$80 Per Month Consumer$80UnlimitedModem, Home phone line, Fetch TV Mighty, Premium Channel Pack$1,920
$80 Per Month Business$80UnlimitedModem, Business phone line, $360 Smart Shop voucher$1,920
$80 Per Month standalone$80UnlimitedModem$1,920

Optus’ new plans are also available on a month to month basis with the same pricing, but you will also have to pay a $200 setup fee.

Optus had lagged for some time when it came to Fetch streaming compatibility, with devices supplied by the ISP not supporting multi-room streaming if you also had a Fetch TV Mini set top box for reasons it would never actually elaborate on.

That time appears to be over, however, as alongside the announcement of the new plans, it has also unlocked the ability for Fetch Mighty streaming to up to three compatible devices. You would need an additional Fetch Mini (or potentially another Fetch Mighty or Gen 2 Fetch TV) set top box to stream to in order to enjoy the multi-room functionality.
