Disney Plus shows and movies
The online service gives users access to a generous library of TV shows and movies from the Disney catalogue, as well as titles from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, National Geographic, ESPN, 20th Century Studios and Hulu. We monitor Disney Plus content additions and removals daily and the streaming service has 949 TV shows and 2,055 movies in its library.
On the TV front, Disney Plus offers hours of Disney Channel programming, but also original productions made especially for the streaming service. The list features Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, which became an international hit shortly after its release. Other Star Wars originals include The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor.
Subscribers get a lot of new Marvel TV series as well, from She Hulk: Attorney at Law to Ms. Marvel to Werewolf by Night and beyond. The platform also now hosts the Marvel shows previously on Netflix: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist,The Defenders and The Punisher.
Star is a Disney Plus hub that hosts content for adults. It's the closest thing to Hulu that countries outside the US can get. Originally, Disney Plus was strictly family-focused, but the arrival of the Star channel added more adult-skewed programming. It hosts popular titles such as the Deadpool franchise, Grey's Anatomy, Family Guy, American Horror Story and Criminal Minds to name a few. It also offers originals such as Dopesick, The Dropout, The Bear and The Old Man.
On the movie front, Disney Plus is becoming the exclusive streaming destination for all titles under the Disney umbrella. The likes of Lightyear, Eternals, Encanto and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have all found a streaming home on Disney Plus after theatrical release.
The service has Australian originals too, including Matildas: The World at Our Feet and The Clearing.
Meanwhile, Star hosts films targeted to a more adult audience such as The Menu, Prey, Fire Island and more. All in all, it's enough content to last you a couple of lifetimes.
The media giant is planning to launch a lot of shows and movies based on existing properties.
Marvel fan? Keep an eye out for upcoming TV series Ironheart, Agatha: House of Harkness, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, Marvel Zombies and a Daredevil reboot.
On the Star Wars side of things, the list of upcoming releases includes Lando, The Acolyte, as well as a spin-off from The Mandalorian titled Rangers of the New Republic.
Star Originals are also making noise. Upcoming titles under the Star banner include crime thriller Culprits.
Disney Plus 2024 release highlights include the following:
Star Wars: The Bad Batch (season 3) - 21 March 2024

Disney Plus was ranked the number 1 streaming service by customers. It topped the categories for both its range and quality of content. Around 92% of respondents said they would recommend Disney Plus, which was the most of all the streaming services surveyed.
Multiple profiles. Disney Plus allows up to 4 concurrent streams, which means that users can watch at the same time using only 1 account. You can create separate profiles for everyone so that each user can curate their own watch list and keep track of the content they're most interested in.
Offline viewing. You can download Disney Plus shows and movies on mobile devices to enjoy on the go without burning through your mobile data. All titles are available for download and there's no limit to how many downloads you can have other than your device's storage capacity.
Accessibility features. The streaming service offers closed captioning, audio descriptions, text-to-speech support, colour contrast, responsive design, keyboard navigations and other accessibility options. Availability of closed captioning and audio descriptions varies by language. Thanks to Disney Plus being a global streaming service, content is available in multiple languages.
4K, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. The majority of the library is in 4K Ultra HD and HDR. There's also content that comes with 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos and supports the Dolby Vision standard. You'll need a compatible device and a high-speed internet connection to enjoy these features.
Kids Profile. Disney Plus lets you limit viewing to titles rated G and PG in Australia. You set it up as you would a normal profile – just make sure you check the Kids Profile box when setting the profile name.
IMAX enhanced. Selected movies are available in IMAX's expanded aspect ratio. In layman's terms, this should allow the film to take up your entire screen instead of having black gaps at the top and bottom of the screen.
Ability to request shows or movies. While the Disney Plus content library is pretty comprehensive, some shows and movies from the Disney catalogue are still missing. If you can't find your favourite title, you can request it to be added by accessing the Help Section and using the Give Feedback feature.
How does Disney Plus compare to Netflix, Stan, Foxtel and others?
Despite joining an increasingly crowded marketplace, Disney Plus stacks up really well. Compared to other streaming services that offer 4K and multiple devices for example, Disney Plus costs less than the premium plans from Stan and Netflix. There are streaming services that are cheaper than Disney Plus – Prime Video and Apple TV Plus are just a couple, along with more niche services.
You can read more about how Disney Plus stacks up against some of the major streaming services below.
Disney needs no introduction. When it comes to content, it's the home of the biggest series in entertainment. Outside of Disney's near hundred-year long history of quality content, there's also Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and Fox (including The Simpsons) under its banner (amongst others). The Disney Plus app does a solid job of taking all of the content from this vast library and making it accessible on-demand in 4K and with Dolby Atmos support. Programs are well organised and easily found, with mini hub-pages providing fan access to 'DVD extras' style bonuses and cast information. While still heavily reliant on legacy content, there's no shortage of new original content coming to the service, too, and that's building. In particular within the Star channel, which has matured the app's range beyond the 'kiddie' and 'popcorn' Disney staples. It's a little on the expensive side at $13.99 a month, but the content is fantastic. I still think it's best suited to families, however, and certainly its used in my home exclusively during family TV time.
For all the inclusions you get (4K, 4 devices at once and Dolby Atmos audio) for the price Disney Plus is definitely a compelling service. Plus if you're a fan of Marvel, Star Wars or Disney it's a must have. The Disney Plus app has just never really evolved how it curates titles since it first launched in Australia. It's unfortunately very lazy and hard to find something to watch if you're undecided. If you navigate to the shows or movies sections you're presented with 'Featured' titles and also have an option to pick from some other genres. However, if you select a genre then you're just presented with any title from that genre in alphabetical order with no other way to sort. Puzzlingly it also has trending titles super low on the homepage, leaving you to go searching for the best show on Disney to watch. The tiles for National Geographic, Star and the rest at least have titles curated by other topics such as sharks or unfiltered reality, which isn't groundbreaking by any means, but is at least usable. If Disney could improve on this it'd climb up my streaming service rankings, as there's a lot of content on there you wouldn't think of with Disney, but it's too hidden in the app.
The Disney Plus interface is built off its franchises, and you can easily step into watching Pixar or National Geographic content to your heart's content. The problem is outside of the major franchise fare, other content can be hard to find and enjoy in between waiting for the next Star Wars or Marvel series to drop. Which is a shame, because there really are some excellent non-franchise shows on there such as from FX. Being just the one plan with a generous amount of simultaneous streams gives it an advantage over other streaming services where you have to up plans if you want more streams. When it was initially launched it was very-much family friendly, but Star gives it another level to have more adult-oriented content. It's a must-have service for families, but its ever expanding content means it's getting a lot of value beyond that.
As a Marvel girlie, Disney+ is my go-to destination whenever I miss one of the blockbusters in the cinema or am in the mood for a show set in that ever-expanding world. Their Star originals are also usually top-notch, with the platform delivering a great mix of kid and adult content. When it comes to navigation, the service is fine, but I hate binge-watching using a web browser. Whenever an episode ends, the app exits full screen, making the entire process less seamless than it could be. Their discovery also leaves much to be desired. Finding something to catch your eye can be tricky if you're not interested in huge franchises like Star Wars. Listing library titles alphabetically instead of tailoring recommendations to the user is a weird choice.
In Australia, Disney Plus packs a wide content library, fun features and an affordable price given it supports 4 simultaneous streams.
Since it offers content from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar Fox Studios and National Geographic, the Force will continue to be strong for Disney Plus. After all, these are some of the biggest media franchises in the world.
Removing the free trial hasn't seemed to affect consumers' willingness to test out the platform, as it has well and truly broken through the 160 million subscriber barrier globally. Frequently asked questions
In 2021 and 2022 Disney Plus held a special celebration called Disney Plus Day. It features exclusive news, exciting releases and special promotions. Typically the promotions 1 month of Disney Plus for only $1.99.
However, in 2023 Disney Plus isn't officially happening.
In 2022, Disney Plus Day was on 8 September. This coincided with the live-action film Pinocchio releasing, as did Thor: Love and Thunder.
The final decision as to whether one service is better than another comes down to individual factors, but Finder has a guide to help you decide which service is best for you.
If you've read through our guide above, you can probably determine if Disney Plus is worth it, but with a competitive price, high profile content from the likes of Marvel and Star Wars, plenty of titles to keep the kids entertained and an ever expanding adult offering for Star, there is something for everyone on the service.
Since Disney Plus no longer offers a trial, your opportunity to get Disney Plus for free is very limited. Usually the only way to get Disney Plus for free is when it is offered as part of a promotion with a third party. For example, Foxtel and Telstra have had offers in the past offering a free year of Disney Plus if you subscribe to a particular one of their services. But the catch is you have to pay for the service that the third party is offering in order to get Disney Plus for free, meaning there is still a cost associated with getting Disney Plus.
No, Disney Plus does not feature any advertising in Australia. However, it has launched an ad tier in the US and it might introduce an ad-supported plan in the future for Australia.

Hi Andrew,
Unfortunately we have no release details for seasons 8, 9 and 10 of Cars SOS on Disney Plus. I did some digging though and found that the first 4 episodes of season 10 are currently on Foxtel Now. You can find more information of Foxtel Now here. It also has a 10-day free trial. Foxtel still has a National Geographic contract hence that they have some seasons that Disney don’t, though that’s likely to change at some point in the future.
