Type of loans available from People's Choice Credit Union
People's Choice Credit Union has a Car Loan and secured personal loans available that can be used to finance a range of vehicle purchases.
- Car Loan. You can purchase a new or used car with this loan, but a special rate of 6.69% p.a. applies for new cars over $20,000.
- Green car loan. A special rate of 4.89% p.a. (Comparison rate 5.24% p.a.) for a new or used (up to 7 years old) electric or hybrid vehicle. This loan is secured against the car you are buying and has a minimum loan amount of $20,000.
- Unsecured personal loan. A loan that can be used for almost any purpose, including a car. It has higher rates than the car loan, 8.99% p.a. (Comparison rate 10.73% p.a.) but does not need security."
The features of a People's Choice Credit Union car loan
The range of loans on offer come with some features that are work considering.
- Flexibility with vehicles as security. Some lenders are very restrictive as to what you can use as a guarantee, but People's Choice lets you use a new or used car as security its Car Loan, or any other vehicle for its Secured Personal Loan or Discounted Personal Loan.
- Pre-approval. You can apply for pre-approval that is valid for 90 days. This lets you know how much you have to spend when shopping for a vehicle online or giving you the upper hand when it comes to negotiating a price in a private sale.
- Discounted rates. You may be eligible for a special rate of 6.69% p.a. with the Discounted Car Loan.
- Flexible repayments. You can schedule your repayments as per your budget – weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The Discounted Personal Loan has terms that can extend up to 10 years, giving you plenty of time to repay your loan. If you can repay earlier with any of the People's Choice loans above, you can do so without penalty. You can also make additional payments at any time.
- Redraw facility. Any additional repayments you make can be accessed using the redraw facility. Keep in mind that the minimum redraw amount is $250 and a fee applies if you redraw in-branch. Also, you can only redraw if you've made sufficient additional repayments.
- New or used car. You can get a secured loan to purchase or refinance a new car, or a used car up to two years old.

How can I apply for a loan from People's Choice Credit Union?

Make sure you confirm the loan details, including the loan amount and interest rate, to ensure you will be able to afford the repayments.
You'll need the following information on hand to complete your application:
- Identification. Your name, driver's licence number and expiry.
- Income. You'll need to provide your payslips as well as any extra income you receive from child support, pensions, overtime, allowances, rental income, commissions, etc.
- Expenses. List information such as your rent, board, loan repayments, credit and store cards and provide your utility bills.
- Assets. This includes things like cash savings, the value of motor vehicles, shares, bonds, property and furnishings.
- Residential and employment details. These details will need to be from the last three years.
You don't need to be a People's Choice member to apply for a loan, but you will need to become a member before the loan can be finalised.
