Last chance: 15% extra for Velocity/flybuys transfers

Don't miss out on the best way to use your flybuys points.

My points tracking calendar just popped up a vital reminder for me: it's time to transfer my flybuys points into my Velocity account.

As I noted earlier in the month, Velocity is running one of its regular offers where you get an extra 15% when you transfer flybuys points. That effectively means you get 1,000 Velocity Points for each 2,000 flybuys points, rather than the regular 870 Velocity Points.

Those Velocity Points are much more valuable than basic flybuys points. 2,000 flybuys points are worth $10 if you turn them into a money-off voucher. If you use the resulting 1,000 Velocity Points to book a flight or an upgrade, they're easily worth $20, and can be worth as much as $50 depending on which flights you pick.

The normal annual limit of 138,000 flybuys points transferred in a calendar year has also been waived during July. So it's a chance to get some more points if you've already pushed past that limit.

The deal runs until Friday 31 July 2020. Unless you're planning to shop at Coles or one of its partners before then and expect that to give you an additional block of 2,000 flybuys points to transfer, it makes sense to do it right now.

I'm extra-lucky this time around. I had a targeted offer for 10,000 flybuys points which hit my account on Wednesday, which is another 5,000 Velocity Points in the kitty. Obviously, I'm not planning to spend them for a while, but I'm still actively thinking about a trip to New Zealand in 2021 or 2022.

To make the transfer, just head to the travel rewards redemption section of the flybuys site. You have to transfer in 2,000 points blocks.

Note that the extra 15% won't show up in the regular on-screen calculator. They'll be credited to your account separately once the transfer takes place, but that should happen pretty much immediately.
