Twice the points, but you'll have to be quick.

Points booster alert!

Virgin is offering double Velocity Points on domestic and short-haul international flight bookings this week.

Things to bear in mind:

  • You need to activate the deal on the Velocity site before making your booking. (You can also try activating in the app but I found that a little buggy)
  • You have to book by 17 August 2022 (so basically you've got a week).
  • You have to take the trip by 4 July 2023.
  • Reward flights aren't eligible to earn bonus points – you have to actually spend money.

Velocity Points earning for flights is based on the price of the ticket. Normally, you earn 5 points per $1 spent. During the offer, that doubles to 10 points.

Always check which class you're booking carefully. The cheapest Lite tickets don't include checked baggage and don't let you pick a seat.

If you want to splurge on Business, the double points offer is particularly appealing.

A one-way Business flight from Sydney to Perth would earn a handy 11,990 Velocity Points.

I've been thinking of making a couple of Virgin bookings to ensure I keep my Gold status next year, so this is very timely.

The last time this offer ran was in February this year. Typically Virgin does a double-points offer twice a year.
