How to transfer your Velocity Frequent Flyer Points to family members

Share your reward points with your loved ones courtesy of Velocity's family transfers.

Whether you’re looking to give away points that are going unused or combine points to cut costs for your next holiday, there are many ways you can share the benefit of your Velocity Points with your family.

Transferring Velocity Points to family members

Velocity allows you to transfer your points to an eligible family member up to four times per membership year. You can send between 5,000 and 125,000 Points per transfer.

According to the Velocity terms and conditions, an eligible family member refers to:

  • Husband/wife
  • Domestic partner/de facto
  • Parent/child
  • Brother/sister
  • Grandparent/grandchild
  • Son/daughter-in-law
  • Brother/sister-in-law
  • Father/mother-in-law
  • Uncle/aunt
  • Nephew/niece
  • First cousin,
  • Any foster, step or adopted relationship in any of these categories

How can I transfer the Velocity Points?

You have two options when deciding how you want to transfer your Velocity Points to your family members:

Transferring points online

  1. Log in to your Velocity Account and click on the "Points Transfer" button on the left-hand side of your screen.
  2. Select a pooling option (points or points and Status credits).
  3. Provide the name and membership number of the family member nominated as a beneficiary.
  4. Confirm all the details and accept the terms and conditions.
  5. Repeat this process for all other family members.

Transferring points over the phone

You can contact the Membership Contact Centre (13 18 75) to organise a points transfer over the phone, but this will incur a $20 fee.

How to set up a family pooling account

family-poolingIf you and your family are all Velocity Frequent Flyers, you can combine (or pool) your Points and Status Credits within the same account to maximise the value of your points. A family pool can consist of a total of six family members who live at the same address. Only two members can be 18 years or over and up to four members can be 17 years of age and younger. You’ll need to assign one member as the main beneficiary who will hold the points.

To ensure all Points and Status Credits are pooled to the main beneficiary’s account, the pooling relationships must be set up before you take your flight. Once you’ve transferred points to a beneficiary, they can’t be reversed.

You can set up a Family Pool by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Velocity account.
  2. Select “Family Pooling” on the left hand side of the screen.
  3. Select a pooling option (points or points and Status Credits).
  4. Provide the name and membership number of the family member nominated as a beneficiary.
  5. Confirm all the details and accept the terms and conditions.

Repeat this process for all other family members.

What’s the value of family transfers or family pooling?

There are many ways you can benefit from family transfers and pooling. For example, say that you and your partner are looking to go on a holiday and will be splitting the costs. If you have saved up a high number of points but your partner hasn’t, transferring some of your Velocity Points to their account could help cut travel costs for both of you.

Similarly, you could also save on travel expenses if your family pools Velocity Points and shares the rewards. This way, if one member doesn’t have enough points to redeem a flight or reward, you can combine your rewards to cover and make greater combined savings for the whole family.

Family transfers and pooling can be a worthwhile way to manage your Velocity Frequent Flyer Points. Regardless of whether you’d like to treat a loved one with the gift of your Points or reduce family holiday costs, there are many ways you can make Points transfers and pooling work for you.
