How we picked these
How the Finder Score helps you find a better broadband plan
We designed the Finder Score to simplify your search for the best NBN and Home Wireless plans. By analysing hundreds of options from 40+ providers, we evaluate pricing, speeds, data allowances and plan features. Each factor is weighted and combined to generate a score out of 10 — helping you quickly spot the most competitive plans on the market. Read the full breakdown.
What type of internet plans are available in Perth?
Quokkas aren't the only thing that made it west. Perth has the NBN too. The rollout across the city and the rest of Australia officially wrapped up at the end of 2020.
However, the way you connect to the NBN depends on your connection type, which is determined by your address.
You can find out what NBN connection you can access using our address checker.
NBN plans in Perth
Most people in Perth should have access to a fixed-line NBN connection. These are split into several types, which can affect the speeds and plans available to you, again, based on your address.
The main types of fixed-line NBN connections include:
- Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
- Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
- Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)
- Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
- Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC)
You can read about them in more detail in our guide to NBN connections, but the short version is that FTTP and some HFC connections can deliver download speeds up to 2000Mbps on the NBN 2000 (Hyperfast) tier, the fastest available on fixed-line NBN.
FTTB, FTTN and FTTC connections can typically max out at 100Mbps.
If you're a bit more on the rural side of Perth, you might have a fixed wireless or NBN Satellite connection available instead.
Did you know?
As part of NBN Co's plans for 90% of homes and businesses to get access to gigabit NBN speeds, those with an FTTN or FTTC connection may be eligible for a free upgrade to FTTP.
You can find out if you're eligible by popping your Perth address into NBN Co's website.
NBN alternatives in Perth
If you don't have access to an NBN connection or you're unhappy with it, you could consider the following alternatives instead:
Home wireless broadband: Connects you to the internet using mobile network signals from nearby towers. Your speed and reliability will depend on whether you're using 4G or 5G, and how strong the signal is in your area. It's the closest alternative to an NBN plan with similar speeds and data allowances.
Mobile broadband: Mobile broadband, also known as a data-only plan, data SIM, pocket Wi-Fi, or dongle plan, lets you connect to the internet wirelessly via a mobile network. It's a portable solution for when you're on the go or need a temporary home internet connection.
Starlink: Elon Musk's satellite internet service is a good, albeit pricey alternative to fixed wireless internet or NBN's Sky Muster satellite plan.
Who offers the best NBN plans in Perth?
It might sound a bit boring, but it's true - there's no single best plan for everyone.
That's why we highlight the best NBN plans each month across multiple categories to help you narrow down your options.
You can check out this month's top contenders in our guide; otherwise, here's a more general rundown of how to choose the best NBN or home internet plan if you're in Perth.
Your need for speed: Choose a speed tier that matches your internet usage. For example, if you're a casual scroller and occasional streamer, an NBN 25 plan may work just fine. However, if you're after faster speeds, an NBN 100 plan or higher might be a better option. We explain which speed tier suits different types of households in our guide to NBN speeds.
Budget: It's almost criminal to sign up for a plan without a discount since there are almost a gazillion deals available every month. Compare introductory offers, bundling discounts and ongoing costs before signing up for a plan. Fun fact: Our Consumer Sentiment Tracker shows that Aussies spend an average of $78 a month on broadband. In Western Australia, it's just a smidge lower at $77 a month.
Customer support: Rebooting the modem may not always fix your internet woes. Find providers that are known for their customer service. It helps to be with a provider known for solid customer service. We run annual customer satisfaction awards - check out the broadband winners to see which providers Aussies rate the highest. Hint: Aussie Broadband, Super, Belong and Tangerine have all taken a big piece of the pie.
Contract length: Make sure the plan offers flexible contract options and be aware of any setup costs. The good news is that most internet plans these days don't come with any lock-in contracts.
Did you know?
Luckily for you, the ACCC released a quarterly broadband performance report highlighting the speed reliability of the top internet providers in Australia, right up until it wound the programme up in June 2026. Check out the final latest results. HINT: Exetel was usually a firm favourite.
"I've been living in Perth for four years now, and when I first moved over from Sydney, I expected the internet here to be noticeably slower. But after switching to Exetel's NBN 100 plan, I've been pleasantly surprised. The connection is consistently fast and reliable, even during peak evening hours."
