What to do if you’ve lost or forgotten your frequent flyer number

Can't remember your frequent flyer account number? Here’s how you can find it in a couple of simple steps.

Your frequent flyer membership number is the key to earning rewards for flights, partner bookings, reward credit cards and any other deals or promotions. It’s also required for all the other benefits that come from being a member.

But with so many different accounts and numbers to keep track of, it’s easy to lose your frequent flyer information.

To make retrieving it easy, we've outlined how to find your number so you can start reaping the benefits of your membership once again.

How to get your frequent flyer number

Every frequent flyer program has a different approach to retrieving lost or forgotten membership numbers.

More often than not though they will ask you for personal details to retrieve your number.

This can include the following:

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Your residential address
  • Date of birth

Aim to provide as much information about yourself and your account as possible to help them locate your membership.

We’ve outlined the process for each of the airline reward programs below.

Tips for finding and remembering your frequent flyer number

  • Provide as much information as possible. When chatting with the customer service team, include details of your account and old addresses and phone numbers. This might help them find your number.
  • Keep track of your membership card. Most frequent flyer programs issue you with a card that includes your membership number.
  • Check old flight bookings. If you’ve previously flown with an airline as a frequent flyer guest, your membership number might be on old flight bookings or itineraries.
  • Search your emails. Some frequent flyer programs send out newsletters and statements that include your membership number. Search your inbox (or junk mail) for the name of the frequent flyer program to see if you can find it.
  • Ask a travel agent you’ve previously used. If you’ve made travel arrangements through an agent, it may have your frequent flyer membership details on file. The same is true of online booking services; just log in to your account and see if the information is there.
  • Check your credit card account. If you have a frequent flyer credit card that earns points for a particular program, your account should have a record of your frequent flyer membership number.
  • Store your number on your phone. Most programs generally have apps that will save passwords as well as your card details.

    I don’t have a frequent flier I.D and without this I can’t check in

      SarahFebruary 20, 2024Finder

      Hi Carolyne,

Your ID is the same as your frequent flyer number. You can contact your flyer program (eg Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity Rewards) and ask them to help you locate your number so you can check in.

You could also be able to check in with your surname and booking reference for most airlines.

      Hope this helps!

I have lost my frequent flyer number how can i retrieve both mine and my wifes

      AmySeptember 6, 2023Finder

      Hi Alan,
Contact the frequent flyer program and let them know you’ve forgotten your details. For Qantas Frequent Flyer, call 13 11 31. For Velocity Frequent Flyer, call 13 18 75. For other programs, the details will be in this guide or on their websites. Your wife may need to do the same, or be there when you contact them, as frequent flyer programs typically won’t provide membership details to anyone but the member. I hope this helps.

      Hi Sandra,

Thanks for your comment and I hope you are doing well.

While we review frequent flyer programs in our pages, it’s helpful to know that we neither work with them or answer for their company. It would be best to contact the customer service support of American Airlines directly for further assistance.

Hope this clarifies and we hope they find a quick resolution for you!
