AGL's sweetening its energy offers with a free Amazon Prime subscription and more. Potentially save $185 by switching providers.

Amazon Prime's amassed a following in Australia for quick shopping deliveries and binge-worthy TV shows and movies on its streaming platform.

If you've been itching to get in on the fun, you can now do it for free — at least for the first 12 months thanks to the AGL and Amazon Prime partnership.

While it does mean switching energy companies, which may seem like a tedious process, it's actually as easy as signing up to Stan or Disney Plus.

In fact, as of October 1, all energy customers across Australia can switch companies within 2 days in order to take advantage of new offers.

All you need to do is:

  1. Select a plan
  2. Choose a start date
  3. Let AGL take care of the rest (including contacting your current provider)

Sign up to AGL and get Amazon Prime for free.

Why not just get Amazon Prime without switching energy providers?

A yearly subscription to joining Amazon Prime costs $59. Alternatively, you could instead pay $6.99 a month if you want the option to cancel after a few months.

Now that may not seem like enough savings to warrant switching energy providers, but there's more.

Carbon Neutral add-on for free

AGL's also giving you its Climate Active certified Carbon Neutral add-on to your new electricity or gas plan at no extra cost for 12 months.

This means AGL will offset the emissions generated by your energy usage by purchasing carbon credits from accredited climate projects.

This will come as welcome news to environmentally conscious Aussies looking to be more proactive with their choices.

Save $126 a year by switching energy providers

If you've been with your current energy provider for over a year, it's likely that you're now on a standing offer as opposed to a market offer.

This happens when your benefit period runs out and you're no longer receiving discounted prices.

Depending on which state you reside in, you could stand to save up to an average $126 a year, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. That could be a total $185 in savings if you count the annual fee for Amazon Prime.

Assuming you decide to go with AGL, one of its plans goes as low as 18% less than the reference price – the benchmark electricity price set by the government to help you compare offers.

Additionally:

  • There's no lock-in contract
  • There are no set-up fees
  • Your rates won't change for the first 12 months
  • The AGL app will help you track your energy usage and pay bills on time
