Compare third party fire & theft (TPFT) motorcycle insurance
Your guide to TPFT bike insurance. Compare policies and get quotes.

This type of insurance covers you for damage you accidentally cause to someone else's property — for example, if you hit someone's Porsche with your motorcycle. This is known as legal liability cover, and most policies offer up to $20 million or $30 million in cover. It also covers you for damage that happens to your bike as a result of fire or theft. The cover limit for this will vary, but it's typically quite low, making third party fire and theft insurance better for people with low-value motorcycles.
If you want cover for your own bike in the event of an accident, you'll need to get comprehensive motorcycle insurance.
The cost of insurance varies hugely based on your personal profile and the bike you ride. To give you an idea of costs, we got quotes from 5 popular motorcycle insurance brands. Keep in mind though, your own quote will likely differ and this should be used as a guide only.

There are three types of 'third party' motorcycle insurance. We've broken them down below.
This cover is legally compulsory. If you live in NSW or QLD, you will have to purchase CTP before you can register your motorcycle. If you live anywhere in Australia, then this cover is included in your registration, meaning that if your motorcycle is registered then you've already got it. This type of insurance covers you for the costs that arise from hurting someone else in an accident. It covers people, not property.
This type of insurance covers you for the costs that arise from when you accidentally damage someone else's property. For example, you crash your bike into someone's expensive car and it costs thousands to repair - that's what third party property damage cover is for. This benefit is referred to as legal liability cover as it covers the costs you're legally liable for when you damage someone's stuff.
This one is simple. It covers everything that third party property damage does, plus, gives you coverage for damage that happens to your bike as the result of fire or theft. This can be particularly good to have if you park your motorcycle on the street.
Keep in mind, none of the above will cover your motorcycle for damage if it becomes damaged in an accident. For that kind of cover, you'd need comprehensive motorcycle insurance.
"Third party fire and theft motorcycle insurance is a good medium level cover for those who don't want to fork out for a comprehensive policy but like the peace of mind that comes with being covered for damages to other people's stuff, plus cover for fire and theft. Even if you think comprehensive coverage is too expensive, I'd always get a quote for both from at least 5 providers — this will let you see where the best value is. I've seen instances where comprehensive cover can be cheaper than third party coverage, so it's always worth looking to ensure you're not being ripped off."
