Jetstar Mastercard Review

Credit cards that come linked to rewards programs tend to charge high interest rates, which is clearly not the case with the Jetstar Mastercard. If you're struggling with a high interest debt, you can consolidate your debt faster with a introductory balance transfer offer of 0% p.a. for 14 months. You can choose your choice of Qantas or Jetstar rewards, giving you greater flexibility when redeeming your rewards. Plus, the reduced annual fee for the first year and interest-free days offer can also help keep your card costs to a minimum.

Benefits of the Jetstar Mastercard

  • Annual fee. Receive a reduced annual fee of $29 for the first year ($69 p.a. thereafter).
  • Balance transfer offer. Save on interest and repay your debt faster with a 0% p.a. balance transfer rate for 14 months. This will revert to 14.99% p.a. at the end of the promotional period.
  • Choice of rewards programs. Earn points on your purchases with your choice of Qantas Points or Jetstar Dollars. You can redeem your Jetstar Dollars for travel vouchers, and you can redeem Qantas Points for reward flights, flight upgrades, or a range of merchandise.
  • Low purchase rate. While most cards that offer rewards charge high purchase rates, the Jetstar Mastercard charges a competitive 14.99% p.a. on purchases.
  • Mastercard benefits. You can use this card wherever Mastercard is accepted, including EFTPOS terminals and ATMs alike. You can also use it to make online and over the phone transactions. Mastercard Applause also gives you exclusive access to events and entertainment offers.
  • Interest-free flying. Pay 0% interest for 6 months when you purchase a flight for $300 or more through the Jetstar website or call centre.
  • No more booking and service fees. When you use your Jetstar Mastercard to book flights on the Jetstar website or call centre, you can avoid the standard Booking and Service fee.

Jetstar Mastercard features

  • Awards. You get to choose between earning Jetstar Dollars and Qantas Points. You earn 1 Jetstar Dollar for every $100 spent on eligible purchases, or you earn 0.5 Qantas Points for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases. If you opt for the Qantas program, you'll have to pay an additional Qantas Frequent Flyer Rewards annual fee of $30.
  • Interest-free days. If you pay your account’s outstanding balance completely before each due date, you can make use of as many as 55 interest-free days on purchases.
  • Additional cards. You can request up to 4 additional cards, though you'll have to pay an annual additional card fee of $9 each.
  • Card security. This card comes with an embedded microchip that offers increased protection against fraud when compared to cards that rely on magnetic strips. While Fraudshield keeps a track for unusual activity, SecureCode provides additional security in the online world.
  • PayPass. You can use this PayPass enabled card to make contactless payments for purchases of $100 or less.

      2. BPAY – Can be completed through phone or internet banking
      3. Post – You can mail your cheque together with the completed payment slip from your monthly statement
      4. Post Office – Payments can be made at any Australia Post office using cash, EFTPOS and cheques

Can I transfer an American Express balance which is a charge card?

    • Staff
      SallySeptember 18, 2015Staff

      Hi Libra,

      Thanks for your question.

According to Jetstar’s balance transfer terms and conditions, you can complete balance transfers of $500 or more from banks, other financial institutions and store cards to your new Jetstar MasterCard account.

Therefore, it would appear that you should be able to transfer your balance from your American Express charge card to the Jetstar MasterCard. To confirm whether you’re eligible to apply, you may wish to contact Jetstar directly.

      I hope this has helped.
