What does Qantas landlord insurance cover?

Qantas keeps it simple and offers landlord cover as an add-on to one of its 3 policies: contents insurance, home insurance, and a combined home and contents insurance. Here are some of the main insured events a policy can cover you for:

Qantas Landlord Insurance is issued by Auto & General Insurance Company Limited. If you purchase the policy and change your mind, it comes with a cooling-off period of 21 days. This means if you haven't made a claim, you can receive a refund if you cancel the policy within 21 days from the issue of the policy.

Exclusions

Like any insurance provider, there are certain general exclusions that apply under a landlord insurance policy. With Qantas, some of these include:

  • Actions of the sea such as high tide or storm surge
  • Asbestos
  • Communicable disease
  • Defects, structural faults or design faults
  • Gradual deterioration such as rust, mould or wear and tear
  • Hydrostatic pressure
  • Intentional acts by you
  • Trees, shrubs or plants

  • Vermin
  • War, looting or rioting

Here's the bottom line about Qantas landlord insurance

Qantas offers a well-rounded policy with a variety of optional extras that you can add on to tailor your insurance. The icing on the cake for some is the ability to earn up to 20,000 Qantas Points with a new policy plus points for your premium and regularly completing home-related checks. This can easily cover you for a return domestic flight.

Where Qantas falls down is the lack of a standalone landlord insurance policy. This could mean that you're being insured for things you don't necessarily need and in some cases, can't claim for if you have a tenant in the home. Its average policy savings on offer for having multiple policies can also be beaten by other insurers.
