Volkswagen has announced the final full-year pricing and equipment levels of the Golf MK7.5, as well as the arrival date of the Mk8.
The award-winning hatch is moving to a driveaway pricing structure, with some models the cheapest they've ever been. Plus, there's heaps of active safety tech to be had.
On all Golf models, metallic or pearlescent effect paint costs $600, apart from the R, where there's no charge.
Prices for the entry-level Trendline start at $24,990 driveaway. That's for a six-speed manual, 110kW/250Nm, 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol model. There's also a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic retailing for $26,990, and a wagon automatic variant costing $29,990 driveaway.
Standard equipment is pretty extensive, including:
*DSG models only
Progressing through the range, the Comfortline adds more passenger comforts and technology. A Comfortline hatch with a 1.4-litre petrol engine costs $29,990, while the wagon is $32,990 driveway.
Standard features include:
*DSG models only
The Volkswagen Golf Highline hatchback and wagon are at their most affordable prices ever at $34,990 and $36,9990 driveaway respectively. The wagon has an impressive 605 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,620 litres with them laid flat.
Standard tech on the Highline includes:
It's also possible to fit out Highline Golfs with the R-Line pack. For an extra $2,500, you get R-Line specific interior and exterior styling touches, 18-inch Sebring-style alloy wheels, progressive steering, sports suspension and rear privacy glass.
The Golf Alltrack wagon has a driveaway price of $37,990. For the money, you receive:
For an additional $4,000, the $41,990 Premium Alltrack model gets:
There are also three additional optional packs for the Alltrack. The $1,200 Drive Assistance Package brings more active safety features. The $2,300 Sound and Vision option brings off-road configuration and a 9.2-inch navigation system. And the Alltrack Premium can be ordered with a Sport Luxury package that costs $2,500. This adds 18-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, a panoramic sunroof and rear privacy glass.
Perhaps one of the most legendary car models ever built, the original hot hatch GTI costs $47,990.
For the money, here's what you'll get:
The Golf R hatch now sells for $54,990 driveaway. The wagon costs an extra $3,000 at $57,990 driveaway.
R cars are fully loaded, including metallic or pearl paint, which is almost always an optional extra in any car maker's range. Optional extras that are available include the ability to add a 400W Dynaudio Excite premium grade sound system ($1,000) or a power opening panoramic sunroof ($1,900).
Volkswagen also announced today that customers buying a new VW can pay to have a care plan that may represent as much as $1,000 in service savings. The scheme freezes scheduled maintenance prices at the current rates. For most Golfs, the care plan costs $1,100 for three years or $1,900 for five. Performance Golfs, like the GTI and R models, have a slightly higher cost of $1,350 and $2,350. Free roadside assistance is also included for the term of the care plan.
VW's director of customer experience and marketing Jason Bradshaw stated that the care plan would give buyers more peace of mind.
"The Volkswagen Care Plan is all about giving customers another reason to buy a Volkswagen with confidence," said Bradshaw.
According to VW, the Mk8 Golf Mark 8 will be here by the fourth quarter of 2020, while the hot hatch R models won't arrive until early 2021.
