Send logo

Send

MoneyGram has almost the same range of countries and currencies as Western Union but tends to be cheaper, and it has a wider scope than Remitly. Much like Remitly, it's known for low minimums, cash options and fast transfers.

Send is an Australian-based company that specialises in larger transfers, so will often be better value than Remitly if you need to send a lot. There are no extra fees added on when you make a transfer, but there'll be a margin added onto the exchange rate.

Why pick Send instead?

  • No extra fees
  • Better for larger transfers
  • Dedicated account manager assigned to you/li>

Downsides

  • Newer company, so not as established
  • Bigger margins on exchange rates
  • Can only send to bank accounts

Why pick TorFX instead?

  • No transfer fees
  • Competitive rates
  • Price match competitors' exchange rates
  • Forex tools such as forward contracts and limit orders

Downsides

  • Bank-to-bank transfers only
  • Can take several days and has no express option
  • Higher minimums mean it doesn't suit all smaller transfers

Why pick WorldFirst instead?

Why pick Wise instead?

  • Mid-market rates
  • Transparent fees
  • Low minimum transfer limit

Downsides

  • Not always more cost-effective than paying a margin on exchange rates
  • Fees can get high for larger transfers, as its a percentage
  • Bank-to-bank transfers only

InstaReM logo Image: Supplied

InstaReM

InstaReM only offers zero-margin transfers for some currencies and during certain hours. The company doesn't make it clear which currencies and hours this applies to, but the fee schedule is clear and simple to understand. However, it has a limited range of currencies and offers bank-to-bank transfers only.

Why pick InstaReM instead?

  • No margin on exchange rates — applicable only for certain currencies and certain trading hours.
  • Competitive fees

Downsides

  • $200 minimum
