How to pay for your Splendour in the Grass ticket

What to do when your bank (balance) won't let you go to Splendour 2024.

  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Splendour In The Grass 2020 is cancelled and rescheduled to July 2021.

If you're a fan of good music, good vibes and general frivolity, then it's likely you've had your eye on this year's Splendour in the Grass for a while. Now that the line-up has dropped, it's time to put your money where your mouth is and start locking in your trip.

But if your bank account is looking a little sad, here's our guide on how you can get the funds and get up to Byron this year.

Solution 1: Get a line of interest-free credit with no fees

Want to way to pay for your tickets now and pay them off without incurring interest? You can consider applying for a 0% purchase card with no annual fees. These cards offer you a promotional rate of 0% p.a. interest on purchases for a certain period of time, some for as long as 13 months. This essentially gives you an interest-free line of credit and a way to pay off large purchases, like your Splendour tickets. They key is to budget properly so you can pay off your debt before the interest kicks in.

After you pay back your debt, you can simply hold onto the card to use in emergencies – if it charges no annual fee then it won't cost you anything to hold unless you use it.

Solution 2: Put your tickets on an existing credit card and transfer your balance

If you already have a credit card with sufficient credit, you can put your tickets on there. Once the transaction has been approved you can take a look at the balance transfer credit cards that are available. These cards let you transfer a balance from an existing card and pay 0% interest on the transferred debt for a certain period of time. Certain cards offer long-term interest-free periods, as long as 24 months, giving you a generous amount of time to pay down your debt (that's two Splendours' worth of time!). As it is with the 0% purchase cards, balance transfer cards that charge no annual fees can help keep your ongoing costs down.Balance Transfer Cards

As it is with the 0% purchase cards, balance transfer cards that charge no annual fees can help keep your ongoing costs down. At the end of the balance transfer period, if you haven't repaid your entire debt, a revert rate will apply to the unpaid balance. Check what the rate is, but try to budget your repayments so your debt is repaid before this rate is applied.

Solution 3: An overdraft or personal loan can give your finances an extra boost

Dip into loansWant to take a look at your other personal financing options? Banks and other lenders offer personal loan and overdraft products that offer benefits like fixed repayments, low fees and lower rates than credit cards. Some banks offer same-day personal loans as well as convenient products like overdrafts, where a credit limit is attached to your transaction account for easy access. With an overdraft, you'll only pay interest on the amount you use and you can often get a limit as low as $100.

Solution 4: Get a short term loan

If you only need to borrow a small amount and can pay it back quickly, a short term loan can get you quick access to funds. Many lenders can approve your loan and get you the money on the same day, but these loans come with high interest rates, especially if you don't repay the loan on time.

What else you need to tick off on your Splendour checklist

  • Your Splendour outfits
Yes, yes, we know, Splendour isn't a fashion show, but you want to look as good as possible when you're traipsing around the campsite not having showered for three days. Luckily, you can get outfits for cheap by using a promo code to save on your online purchases.
  • Your transport
There's a huge range of public transport options available, including trains, buses and car share. If you're travelling long distances, why don't you look at ways to save on your flight by getting a frequent flyer credit card? Some of these cards give you bonus points just for signing up, which can mean a free flight for just making your first eligible purchase or meeting the eligible spend criteria on the card.
  • Your essentials
From baby wipes to camping gear, there's always a growing list of things you need to pack, but no list is ever longer than the list of things you forget to bring. Trawl through the forums if you're a newbie and see what others recommend. If you're a seasoned Splendourite, try to remember the things you could barely live without last year and pack them first. Dry shampoo, torches, sleeping bags and a tent might be a good place to start. Happy packing!
