ING international money transfers

Last updated:

ING's international money transfer service is no longer available – find out what that means for you here.

As of July 2019, ING no longer offers international transfers from any of its accounts. If you're an ING customer and you want to send money overseas, you can only do so by using a third-party transfer service.

Keep reading for full details of what happened to ING's international transfer service and what you need to do to make an overseas payment.

ING international transfers no longer available

ING previously allowed customers to send money overseas via a partnership with OFX.

However, as of July 2019, this service has been discontinued. As a result, ING does not offer international transfers from any of its accounts.

What does this mean for me?

If you're an ING customer and you want to make an overseas payment, you can't send an international transfer directly from your ING account. Instead, you'll need to use a third-party money transfer service to complete your transaction.

There are dozens of companies that specialise in fast and secure international money transfers, so make sure you compare transfer providers and shop around for the best deal.

Travelling to America, what are the fees if I am going to use the ING card there? I can’t seem to find a exchange rate.

      Hi Rachelle,

Thank you for getting in touch with finder.

If your ING card is linked to an ING Orange Everyday Account, when you use that in the US you are charged $2.50 as the overseas ATM withdrawal fee and 2.5% of your transaction value as the overseas Eftpos fee. However, ING will waive those charges if you deposit $1,000 and make 5+ card purchases a month. The exchange rate is not posted as it varies on the date and time of your overseas transaction.

      I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any other enquiries.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni

Hi, I would like to have an account so I can easily send money to Thailand. I want to know how long it would take and if there are any fees. How do I set that up?

      Hi John,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

The process flow is usually like this:

      1. Register for free on their website and log in.
      2. Then you can get quotes, add beneficiary (person or company) details and book deals (a deal is a term used for the purchase of your international currency).
      3. After you submit your details, an ING DIRECT Representative will call to discuss your transfer(s), make sure the system is set up correctly for your needs and answer any questions you may have about the service and process.

They do not charge transaction fees except for transactions under AUD$10,000 (or foreign currency equivalent) per recipient. Please note, for all transactions under this threshold made, a fee of AUD$15 (or foreign currency equivalent) is applied. If a transaction fee is payable, it will be added to the total amount you are required to settle. Additional Third Party Transaction Fees may be applicable also.

You can refer to the Product Disclosure Statement of their site for more details. Alternatively, you may speak to one of their consultants.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Jonathan

      Hi Christina,

      Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately we’re unable to comment on the cost of the exchange rate, but for transfers under AUD $10,000 there is a $15 transaction fee.

      I hope this helps,
      Shirley
