Strange ways to earn frequent flyer points: New cars and travel insurance
Aussie airlines are offering big buying incentives.
Australia's premium full-service airlines, Virgin Australia and Qantas Airways, have come up with some interesting new ways for frequent flyers to earn bonus points on purchases.
Virgin Australia has partnered with Aussie car manufacturer Holden to offer new car buyers a sizeable frequent flyer incentive.
Holden customers who purchase an eligible vehicle, from Malibus and Barinas to Captivas and Colorados, will earn between 40,000 and 100,000 Velocity points.
To earn and redeem Velocity Points, you'll need to be a Velocity member, have your new vehicle delivered before 30 September 2016 and submit your Velocity membership details on Holden's website.
Here's the breakdown of points for vehicles:
- Up to MY15 Malibu - 40,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Astra, Barina, Cruze Equipe, Cruze CD, Cruze CDX, Cascada, Insignia - 40,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY17 Spark - 40,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Ute, LWB, Commodore - 70,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Captiva, Colorado 7, Trax - 75,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Colorado 4X2 (excludes MY17) - 40,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Cruze Z-Series, Cruze SRi Z-Series - 100,000 Velocity Points
- Up to MY16 Colorado 4 x 4 (excludes MY17) - 100,000 Velocity Points
On the other side of the fence, Qantas has teamed with Easy Travel Insurance to dish out double Qantas Points for clients who purchase eligible travel plans for a limited time.
For every dollar spent, Qantas members will earn 1 frequent flyer point, rather than the usual 1 point per $2.
This offer applies to customers purchasing either international comprehensive, annual multi trip or Australian comprehensive insurance between 1-31 August 2016.
