Insane Woolworths trick: Would YOU do this to earn Qantas Points?

Key takeaways
- Woolworths is offering bonus Everyday Rewards points with EFTPOS gift cards this week.
- Because of card fees, these can actually leave you out of pocket - unless you convert your Everyday Rewards points to Qantas Points.
- What's next: The deal runs until 28 April 2026.
Reckon you'll do anything for extra cash or points? This tip will test your money-saving moxy.
This week, Woolworths is offering bonus Everyday Rewards points if you buy a $50 or $100 EFTPOS gift card. The $50 card gets 500 Everyday Rewards points, the $100 one gets 1,000. Woolworths runs this deal often - in 2025, we saw it four times.
You can pay with an EFTPOS card in just about any Australian retailer, so that's a flexible gift - or even just a sneaky way to get more points for yourself (just use it for your daily coffee).
However, there's a big catch.

You have to pay a fee for the card: $5.95 for the $50 version, or $6.95 for the $100 card.
So are the points worth more than the fee? I've crunched the numbers.
If you just use your Everyday Rewards points for $10 off shopping vouchers (which need 2,000 points), the answer is "definitely not worth it".
For the $50 card, you'll be $3.45 worse off, even after getting the bonus points. For the $100 card, you'll be $1.95 out of pocket. As a points strategy, that makes no sense.
Now, I always advise folks to convert their Everyday Rewards points into Qantas Points. The reason? They're worth more. Qantas values vary, but you'll generally get $20 of value for every 2,000 Everyday Rewards points as long as you spend them on flights or upgrades. That's worth more than a $10-off voucher, though you might wait longer to use it.

Even given that extra value, the $50 card is still a dud, points-wise. Converting to Qantas Points, you'd still ultimately end up $0.95 out of pocket.
But the $100 card is the hidden sweet spot. You'll end up $3.05 ahead even after allowing for the card fee, provided you use your points for a flight. If you're really keen, you can buy 5 cards a day.
I'll freely admit it - that's a lot of fiddling to gain a few points. But it's that level of obsession that's going to score you a free flight sooner, folks.
The Woolworths deal runs from Wednesday 22 April to Tuesday 28 April 2026.
